I have a 7mth old, and the things that I have found most useful from overseas (or have missed the most!) are:

Baby carrier - a manduca carrier has definitely been my favorite - wonderful and usable till bub is about 3 yrs old - fits both myself and hubby and can carry on both front and back (Second choice would be an ergo)

Good quality educational baby toys

Some practical comfy quality girls clothes

Picture/board books

Baby / toddler swing

Baby safety gate (prob too big for a suitcase though!) and we live country so may be available in Bangkok.

I have used our stroller mostly inside the house only, but that is great for a break for putting kids down - smaller is better and make it foldable.

Porta cot (can get them here though)

Hope that helps!

Thanks yes that helps very much

I was thinking also of a car seat , well really one that the baby can sit in when inside the apartment , but has a handle on top to carry it around

I just need to figure out how to pack some of this stuff in a duffel bag as check-in luggage !

Car seats you can get from Mothercare in Thailand and other places. Good quality too - we bought "Cool Kids". Saves you carrying on the plane, plus the instructions will come in Thai, and you can always ask the Thai staff to help you in showing how to fit them too. In fact if your car was parked in the car park I'm sure one of the staff would actually come and fit it if you asked.

In Bangkok, there's a Mothercare in Emporium, and then in some of the Central Department stores, eg Central Rama3, Central Chidlom

Cheers

Thanks......they do not have a car / truck I am just bringing the car seat hoping that sometimes when they go in a Taxi or friends car they will strap the kid in , and at least they have one which they would NEVER buy themselves because of cost and no car :)

I am just trying to give this baby a few things that she would never get , millions of kids have never seem a car seat and survived ,

And I can buy , or get for free many of these things here , so why not bring them ? as far as the plane , I drop it off in Los Angeles , pick it up in Bangkok and only have to worry about stuffing it all in the taxi at the Airport :)

If you have loads of time and esp live in trendy metro area, start scouring thrift stores for clothes. Any smaller sizes will do, focus on quality, name brand and great condition. Toss it all in a box and when you get here, have it all wadhed and pressed.

Buy clothes from infant to 4-5 yrs. Theyll love ya fer it!

PS saw tv show once, said never to buy used mechanical baby stuff (car seats especially). Car seats, cribs, strollers...

Good idea on the clothes....

the TV show was probably worried about all the baby stuff that has been recalled but not turned in and ends up at yard sales etc , so I will check on the net to make sure the stuff I bring was not recalled.

But thanks for your concern , its something I did not think about until now.

What about something like this ?

OK they might not need the electric fence .....YET .....

but one of these baby "cages" umm cribs might let the baby move around some but not "escape" smile.png

An update :

I brought over a bunch of stuff...

.the one they really wanted was a fold up crib as the baby is starting to crawl around some , baby seems to be using it more to pull herself up and stand so she can see over the edge and not look thru the mesh siding , I brought a "small" one by USA standards which worked out great for a small Thai apartment and fit in my suitcase too, I figure when I come over in 3 months the baby will have learned how to climb over the edge and they will need the barbed wire option !

I brought 4 of the Baby carriers , the cloth ones where you hold the baby to your chest , they were all diffurent styles / brands / sizes , not sure which ones they will use,

a small stroller , weighs 2-3 pounds , got the airline to check it ion free.....they have a "Mercedes quality " stroller that was a gift from someone else and they love showing that off , mine will get used because it was lightweight !

Car seat....they do not have a car but I figured it was good for carrying the baby around plus it had a sunshade.......we will see if they use it much

last was a Fisher Price Rocking Baby Bouncer , this the baby LOVED from the first minute, big smiles and giggles ,

So that was it this visit , she turned 6 months old today , so will be 9 months at next trip and I will have to thing of more stuff to look for !

Any ideas what else to bring for a 9 - 15 months old ?

The best buy I made in USA for life in s e Asia was an all terrain stroller the type that has push bike tires and spoke wheels. We used that buggy everywhere from daily beach walks to off road trecks.

I was thinking about that too , i wonder how small it breaks down to try and get it in my suitcases,

I will need to go to the store and see what the original box looks like :)

No way would the one I bought fit in suit case

the small light weight one did not fit either BUT , I took it to the airport anyway as I had nothing to lose , did not need it at my house :)

Thai air was nice enough to check it for free !

But I doubt they would do that for the larger "off road" one , well maybe since I will be Star Gold status next time I might give it a try , I can find a nice one for $20 at a yard sale around here ,

The bigger problem is the room it takes to store it , ts already pretty crowded with 4 people and the baby in a 1 room apartment !

Thailand has lots to offer for shopping, as long as you have money.

I woukd suggest a set of good material baby clothes (not made in china please). If its too little maybe plus an envelope with some money inside. So the mother can buy what the baby really needs.

Alternatively, a gold anklet would be nice. Thai loves gold. And you don't have to bother yourself about the extra baggage.

Hi have the luggage space and can get high quality baby stuff cheap here so why not , its is stuff they would NEVER buy because of lack of $$$$

Sure they would LOVE gold , buts its just going to get sold anyway ,:)

I took them shopping a couple times at Big C for things they really needed , nappies , formula etc ,

Who knows what they will see and want in the next few months !
