BANGKOK: -- The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confiscated a large amount of sexual performance aids, mostly made in China, and will give itself more authority to curb smuggling of the products. The FDA seized the goods last month but showed them to the press yesterday along with drugs from Sri Lanka and Germany, all smuggled through Don Muang airport.

The office confiscated 2,400 tablets of sexual performance drugs, 140 bottles of Spanish fly used as sleeping pills, 26,400 slimming pills, 320 bottles of blemish cream, 2,800 sex toys and unregistered medicine. The total was worth more than 1.3 million baht. The authorities also took legal action against 68 smugglers, including one Thai, FDA chief Pakdee Pothisiri said. The illegal products were distributed around Yaowarat.

In a bid to prevent smuggling of sex toys and other sex enhancement products, the office wants to list them as non-commercial medical equipment so officials could immediately take action.

At present the agency cannot seize the products without cooperation from the Consumer Protection Office because they are not listed as medical tools.

People convicted of smuggling non-registered medicines can be fined up to 5,000 baht or sentenced to three years in prison or both.

What a waste of time!

Part of the "moral" cleansing.................. :o

Looks as though the moral cleansing cops have had fun.....I assume that the coloured toys have been inflated!!.......and that the cops are now in deep sleep thanks to the Spanish Fly :D

Ah I see Thailand is following some States in America where sex toys can only be obtained on prescription :D You face 1 year in prison. Must be due to somebody's doctorate in Criminal Justice there. :o

The title of the thread mentions Viagra, but the text of the press release doesn't say that. I'll bet "sex performance drugs" are herbs like ginseng, the dust of animal tusks, and anything they call "Spanish fly."

Hopefully the Prime Minister's cabinet, and you and I, can still buy Viagra and Kamagra without a prescription.

Giddy' up, little horsey....

In understood that the 'Pubic' Health Minister banned sales of these enhancers at all ministry premises throughout the country as well,

Hmmm... reminds me of a few years back in Japan- when Viagra came out, it was passed through the drug approval bureaucratic apparatus in RECORD time, less than a year- even though birth control pills had been languishing in purgatory for over a decade... something to do with who's making the decisions (and in a darker way, the fact that Japanese doctors make so much money off abortions, since Japanese don't like to use condoms).

Somehow I can't see the Viagra part of the crackdown continuing for too long....

Well, from the picture I see mostly Dildos. Exporting Dildos is crime?

No it isn't, but importing them is :D You just try to get one through the X-ray at customs, then stand back and watch the red faces :o
