Marriage To Myanmar Citizen In Hong Kong?

Featured Replies

Has anyone RECENTLY achieved this? Was it easy for the myanmar citizen to get a visa in Thailand to visit HK? We have been told it will be nigh on impossible for us to marry in Thailand - I am British - and that Hong Kong is our only option.

Any advice on this topic very much appreciated.

The authority of the country where you get married must be able to understand all documentation :

a) birth certificates

b)actual status (single, divorced, widow(er..)

Those certificates can only be issued by the country of origin and have eventually to be translated and legalised.

Moreover the marriage must be concluded according to the law of the country where you get married (minimum age, eventual consent of parents, etc...)

Without the involvement of the consul generals of Myanmar or the UK I do not understand how a Registrar of Marriages of a third country will accept the marry you.

Don't know if it helps but I got married in Hong Kong two years ago to a Laotian lady. I'm a kiwi.

We can definitely get married there...they do not require the affadavit of freedom to marry as they do in Thailand. We have all documents certified/translated etc. I am more worried about how hard it is to get a tourist visa into Hong Kong - or actually Macao and onto HK from there - for a burmese citizen - that could be our only problem...
