I think it is important to get the right doctor for the right surgery. If you have a doctor you feel is competent and you trust him and he says Sriphat go for it.

The best doctor for appendix removal would not be my choice for a knee replacement surgeon.

Maybe not a great price though. But then, no price can be put on sight.

Many TV members have had surgery there, it is probably the most commonly used facility in CM for major medical problems and with good reason.

That said, choice of doctor is important.

Sriphat has JCAHO certification (or their equivalent for foreign hospitals). Joint Commission Accrediting Health Organizations. It's a US national review organizations that checks everything from cleanliness (nocosomial infection rates), morbity and mortality rates down to level of training of the maintenance staff. Sriphat and Ram are part of a very exclusive group of non-US hospitals world wide to hold this distinction. I wouldn't worry about going into Sriphat for surgery.

However hospital culture varies from country to country. In the US things like toiletries, custom order meals are included (at $1000 per day for room and board sort of falls under DUUUHHH). In Italy toiletries have to be brought from home, Mexico food is brought in by the family. In Italy it's the doctor's way or the highway. No questions asked versus US you "consult".

Make sure you understand the hospital culture and if you know someone who speaks good english and thai have them stay with you during the hospital stay. Correct communication can save your life and will make your stay much more comfortable.

Friend of mine had a hernia operation there 2 years ago. Went very well. Another friend had cataract surgery there, also very well. I was going to have a hernia operation there last year as well, but the quote from the surgeon made me go price shopping. Whenever getting an operation done, I would strongly urge anyone to get quotes from3 hospitals. Surgeons can set there own prices, not set by the hospital. Many surgeons also work multiple hospitals and will set prices based on the hospital they are in. THe same surgeon can cost 1 amount at one hospital, another price at a different hospital.

I had a colon resection done last year at Sripat and was very satisfied with doctors, medical care and the price. Recommend highly.

Incorrect, RAM is JCI accredited, Sriphat however is the semiprivate wing of CMU teaching hospital and is not JCI accredited.

Excellent Drs at Sriphat.....probably the best in the North, but prepare yourself for large crowds and long waits as well as a screwy queue system.
