Elderly German Shoots And Kills District Administrator Before Killing Self

<p>BERLIN, GERMANY (BNO NEWS) -- A elderly German man shot and killed a a local district administrator in the northern region of the country, local authorities said Friday.

</p>

<p>The attack occurred on Friday morning at approximately 10:30 a.m. local time when the gunman entered an office building in the town of Hamelin, shooting District Administrator Rüdiger Butte.

</p>

<p>A police spokesperson told Deutche Welle that Butte died due to the attack, and the gunmen later killed himself with a self-inflicted gunshot.

</p>

<p>Media reports said the gunman was 74 years old, and although the reason of the attack remains uncertain, the assailant had tried to schedule a meeting with Butte in previous days.

</p>

<p>Butte, 63, was elected in 2005 as the distrtict administrator of Hamelin-Pyrmont after serving as State Crime Investigations Office chief in Lower Saxony.
