Real or Fake?

real as far as the own the rights to about 60 thai songs

fake that they say they cover international recordings

fake that they have a navy police officer in tow and pay the local bib for support

can they have any say about music or music videos played right from youtube/

Think they do not. I was in a bar on soi 6 and it was playing you tube videos. When I asked her if she was getting past the music " police" she said yes.

They got booted out of Chiang Mai recently. They had cheated dozens of poor Thais as well as foreigner for a few months. An expat magazine with a Thai owner started publicizing what they were doing after reading about it on Thai Visa and the legitimate Thai police got on it right away. Within a few days they had been arrested and then fled town.

One bar owner i know had been asked to pay an on the spot fine of 20k

otherwise they would prosecute .

After refusing to pay, the bar owner told them to take the matter to court instead.

They then left, and never returned.

As posted above, they were booted from chiang mai but also some of them were arrested. Not surprised at all to see them elsewhere. I suppose this will end right after the jet ski scam does.

BTW: Not just bars and restaurants, they try it at every shop that may have some music playing for the staff, etc.

So better read up also if you're involved in just about any other kind of business where customers walk in.

That's the perfect reply to these scam artists. They're insulting the intelligence of bar owners.

It's only the production company of the music being played that can be involved anyway. It's a civil matter and has nothing to do with anyone else.

Pay an "on the spot fine of 20k" today and they'll be back every month.
