Buying A Used Car In Thailand

Recommended Posts

I want to buy a used car I'm curious to know,

1. If a Falang can own a car totally with out a percentage of Thai's owning it. (example owning land or a house).

2. Whats 's the basic costs to insure it ( knowing that I don't know the value of the car or its particulars because I don't have one.

3.What kind of cost for license, inspection fee's and registration.

4.Whats the general "opinion" of buying a p/U with LP,diesel or gasoline in Thailand

5. I'm dead set on spending 300-350K.

Please only sincere reply's

Thanks

1: Yes

2: You need Class A insurance, for your price app. 12k baht pr year. A class A will cover bail bond and medical expenses for all parties involved.

Also in a accident you just call the insurance company and let them deal with it.

3: Can't remember but not much.

4: Check motor forum. Do you mean pick-up truck? Buy a diesel but hard to find for your budget. Goggle one-two car, thousands of cars/trucks for sale.

5: I just sold a petrol Honda City 2006 ZX (Top model) for +350k baht, still a good car but I wanted a truck (new).

Most Eco cars are from 380k. I have a Mitsubishi Mirage cvt 460k and very happy. I have friends who have the Nissan ALMERA and March both very happy.

Buy new get warranty.

http://www.one2car.com/

Shows Tent traders, and more expensive them some of the other site which also list private sellers....

Depends what you are looking for, but for under 350,000 baht and a 2011 or 2012 model...

even on http://www.one2car.com/ a Chinese car there are a few cars and mini vans, 300,000 get you a 2011 or 2012 model. just one http://www.one2car.com/search/search_result.aspx?Brand=B0079&Model=S1412&

CNG gas factory fitted pickup gets you http://www.one2car.com/TATA_XENON/F07120295

http://www.one2car.com/search/search_result.aspx?Brand=B0090&

http://www.one2car.com/search/search_result.aspx?Brand=B0078&

A main line Thai car something like this http://www.one2car.com/NISSAN_ALMERA/J09120411

or this http://www.one2car.com/HONDA_BRIO/E13130214, both over your limit but under 400,000 baht.

Look on say http://www.taladrod.com/w20/Home/Home.aspx same year and model normally is around 20 - 30,000 baht less

What do you need ? a single cab Pickup [2 door + 2 seats] is a lot cheaper than 4/5 seats.'cab or 4 door

Myself would look at http://www.taladrod.com/w20/Search/CarDet3.aspx?cib=1165346 but then that is me

Anyone out there know if you can buy a car on a tourist visa?

Currently own a condo in my name and live in Pattaya, but could end up buying a

car in Bangkok.

I know i need a resident certificate from immigration, but not sure about the visa requirement?

Visa doesn't matter - only ID and confirmed address.

While I don't disagree with this advice, I would offer a slightly different suggestion.

Economy isn't everything. You can buy a relatively cheaper pre-owned car here and spares for repairs are cheap.

Some time ago I needed a truck. Nothing special, but I needed to move stuff around over short distances, for a period of 6-9 months. I had three options, which were; buy a new truck, rent/lease a truck and buy an older truck.

I bought an old Toyota Mighty for 110k. I spent 20k on insurance and new tires/tracking. I used the truck for 8 months and sold it for 149k. The only car I've owned that I sold for a profit. If I include the rental costs at the time I made/saved 169k on the deal.

If you have a reasonable knowledge of mechanics. This option is worthy of consideration.

Pickups and Suvs in Thailand are very expensive in second hand in Thailand. However, if you are buying from Thai owner, you have to be very careful when inspecting car. Try to stay away from car dealers (car tents). Farang owners can also lie about car's history, but you have a higher chance to buy a good maintained car from farang rather than a Thai owner.

check craigslist thailand and taladrod.com for 2nd hand cars/pickups for sale.
