Yingluck may face charges if govt doesn't follow court order: activists

BANGKOK: -- Environmental activists and engineers have warned Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra she will face impeachment if her government does not follow the Constitution and conduct public hearings to truly listen to opinions from people who may be affected by its massive water-management scheme.

Organising exhibitions would not suffice, they said.

"If the government does not follow good practice for public hearings for its water mega-scheme and the order by the Central Administrative Court, the government will also face another lawsuit to the Criminal Division for Holders of Political Office in the Supreme Court for failing to comply with the Constitution. It will also face impeachment," said Hannarong Yaowalers, who chairs the Foundation for Integrated Water Management.

He was speaking at a seminar on "Good Engineering Process and Public Hearings for the Water Management Project" held by the Engineering Institute of Thailand.

His warning follows a comment by Deputy Premier Plodprasop Suraswadi, who chaired a Water and Flood Management Commission meeting last week and vowed to conduct "public hearings" by organising an exhibition and an event to collect opinions about the water and flood management scheme.

Thongchai Panswad, former president of the Thailand Environment Institute Foundation, also called for strategic environmental assessments to be done to study the overall impact of the Bt350-billion water scheme. Doing environmental impact assessments and health impact assessments (EIAs and HIAs) on various projects would not be enough for the government and public to see the whole impact of the scheme, he said.

Too late, the Pheu Thai cronies have already bought out loans and gained money from under the table biddings OF those Mega Projects and populist SCAMS, and will do anything to buy themselves out of the justice process...

And if flooded how they blame !!!?

That would depend on how well they manage the infrastructure in place at the time.

Remember, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. And I'm far from convinced all their intentions are good.

The government was elected by the people. There is no reason for the government to follow the law. If you do not understand, we will send some of the boys in red to talk to you. If you still do not understand and keep up with what you are doing, you to can vanish. ph34r.pngph34r.png

'Environmental activists and engineers have warned Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra she will face impeachment if her government does not follow the Constitution and conduct public hearings to truly listen to opinions from people who may be affected by its massive water-management scheme'

Can't see it happening. Some think this government will bend, change, corrupt anything they have to just to get there own way

And if flooded how they blame !!!?

It seems that, according to the experts (they do count actually as they qualified on the subject) that this pseudo-government's ill thought out schemes will not protect people from floods even if they are implemented.

So basically they are wasting a huge amount of money, disrupting or destroying peoples lives and livelihoods just to give the impression that they are doing something about it to curry favour with the voters come the next election!!

They seem intent on throwing away money for no real purpose which is hardly good governance - the rice scheme is a prime example of this, and those tablets, and the first car scheme and.................

"Environmental activists and engineers have warned Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra she will face impeachment if her government does not follow the Constitution and conduct public hearings to truly listen to opinions from people who may be affected by its massive water-management scheme"

The threats made by these perported trade interests and afiliations with their apparently interested quangos are rather late in the day with their objections to this widely publicised and debated series of projects.

I hope that Thailand has a 'Statute of Limitations' to bring these spoilers to heel. Thailand's public works are often aflicted by 'Spoilers' that coral interested parties to aide them in pursueing their self interests as oposition polititians or land owners.

Every Public Works Project is oposed by NIMBIES and oportunists that deam their interests to be above those of the very people that the projects are intended to serve or protect. Such oposition serves to increase project costs though seldom suceeds in the core ojective of project cancellation.

Made me chuckle..... Thanks indyuk you cheered up my day. Just for the record though I want you to know and comprehend if you can that I have never heard such drivel in all my life. Where in the galaxy does the planet indyuk figure?

If the projects have been so widely publicised and debated, it shouldn't be too hard for you to tell us what they're planning to do.

What has been publicised is the fact that the government hasn't told the people what the details of the projects are.

(And it's NIMBY's - Not In My Back Yard)

His defiant gesture is directed at her victorious opponents, (from right to left) the Battleship "Rice Scam", the Heavy Cruiser "Corruption" and the Light Cruiser "Water Management". The Destroyer "Chalerm" who also played a vital role in her sinking can be seen on the horizon.

Care to explain how covering a village in meters of water is protecting the villagers?

Lets face it this government and it's supporters don't give a damn about people. It is all about getting their cut of the pie. Not a one of this dams is designed to protect the area they are being built in they are all to help Keep Bangkok dry.

I hope you're not even harbouring the idea, that an elected Government cannot use its majority to pick and choose which parts of the law are relevant to their actions/inactions.

Come on, you missed the bit about money. The aim is two-fold, like the high-speed rail links.

At least the high speed rail links will serve a useful purpose and not destroy the ecology. Even if it did it would only affect the people it is being built for Bangkok people. Not huge areas of ecology.

Mind you I am not saying that if given proper studies they would be bad. It might turn out to be a very good thing. But make the studies and take every thing into consideration. I believe two of them on one river have a plan that says 77 small ones placed in different spots would actually help the ecology and the villagers the government wants to throw out.

Thaksin had some water experts in from Israel and they turned in a plan for water management that would have involved a lot less big dams.
