Public Health Ministry actively campaigning for food safety in schools

BANGKOK, 11 July 2013 (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health has launched a pilot project in nine provinces with an aim to promote food safety in schools and nurseries and to push Thailand to become ASEAN’s leader in food standard.

Deputy Permanent Secretary for Public Health Suphan Srithamma said the food safety project was the collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Science and Technology. The project is to make sure that food is safe throughout the process, from raw materials to distribution.

Halal food is also included in the project since Thailand has set a target to export Halal products that meet the standards to other ASEAN member countries.

The Public Health Ministry’s food safety project has been piloted in schools and nurseries in nine provinces across the country, namely Chiang Mai, Lampang, Nakhon Sawan, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, Songkhla and Phuket. The ministry’s ultimate goal is to reduce food poisoning and diarrhea in young students by the year 2016.

Campaigning is good. But, I am doubt about the hygiene level while cooking & serving food.

Had seen upcountry schools, the way they cook and feed children, it really needs campaigning for food safety in schools

Esp. utensils they used.

Govt. has to take initiative measures not to use an ALUMINIUM utensils in schools.

There is a long and deep research article about an aluminium utensils that, how dangerous this metal is for cooking.

No need to say, its a HEAVY METAL.

Reminds me of the scene in the sitting room in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"; everyone is waltzing around doing their own thing and no one else notices or cares. Some are even sitting, propped up in chairs, drooling from one side of the mouth and blubbering about something or another. Still, no one notices or cares.

Each actor in that scene is absolutely convinced that they are on to something great.

This illustrates Thai government and how people react to it.

[...] promote food safety in schools and nurseries and to push Thailand to become ASEAN’s leader in food standard [...]

Well, how about first defining a realistic minimum standard for food safety and enforce it to get on a level with other countries, and then work up from there? No, we omit the first steps, skip all those pesky bureaucratic regulations and become (drum roll) "the LEADER", although we lack even the simplest prerequisites to get anywhere close to that target and don't have the slightest intention to change that.

The only excuse I can accept for this utter [expletive] is that there is apparently no chance to get a chunk of taxpayers' money if you don't claim your idea is making Thailand a "hub" or a "leader".

In any case it will offer a new source of income for the BiB - scurrying around school kitchens and demanding tea money for looking the other way.

AUT CAESAR AUT NIHIL (Either Emperor or nothing) is a nice attitude if you are eager and ambitious. If in reality it always means "NIHIL" for you, it would be advisable to recheck your plans and set your sights a bit lower.

It also has links to Alzheimer's, which could explain some of the "strange" Thai behaviour.

My daughtert took a picture of a huge rat, just yesterday in the canteen

Does this include soap in the washrooms, gloves for the cooks and the removal of the dreaded water cup?

Campaigning? What the hell does that mean? Inspections of preparation areas? If they looked they would close down 80% of the kitchens. Next they will say they are going to campaign for cleanliness in wet markets......
