It's awfully early for Yee Peng - Loy Krathong

Featured Replies

Yet I am seeing "floats" in the moat already. Yesterday I noticed 2 dragons on the west side of town. Is there an earlier festival that would involve these kinds of exhibits? The earliest I have been here in previous years is October for Loy Krathong. I'm just surprised to see these being installed 3 months early!!

Thanks - what's going on at Thaphae Gate is an ongoing question. Seems like every week there is a new thing. And I hadn't noticed anything particularly different from previous festivals at the gate, just in the moat as I mentioned.

Love this place for the information you get. Hate it for the snarky comments. Really needs a moderator.

Could you fill the role of a nanny whose long Victorian skirts barely cover her jackboots?

Today is a Chinese 'special day' my landlady tells me. No idea what the day is tho.

Her husband is Chinese, and she's just left an enormous tray of Chinese food, cakes and sweets for me.

arroi mak!

Re "Yesterday I noticed 2 dragons on the west side of town" well if anyone missed them and you want to see one, I know a few guys whose mother in law could do with a visit....

Ok I'll grab my coat

Chinese Ghost Day.... gotta burn paper money, cars, ipads...all that stuff... WSJ reported that one TRILLION HK dollar paper notes were the big rage this year and suppliers ran

out of them... apparently inflation even on the "other side" is getting pretty bad...

My pal in China says his wife would not leave the house, cancelled her students, etc... only went out to burn money at grave and then quickly back inside
