1 Year Extension of Non Immigrant Visa

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have just done my application for 1 year extension (this is the 2nd 1 year extension), of my Non Immigrant visa based on having a Thai child. All went well, and I have to go back on the 27th September to have the 1 year extension stamped in my passport (see attached image).

I realise that I can leave the country before this date as long as I get myself a re-entry permit first. My problem is that I would like to stay outside Thailand until after the 27th September (maybe until November). The immigration officer told me that if I do not go on the 27th September, the visa is 'cancelled'. Does anyone know if there are any other solutions or ways around this? ie allowing me to come back after the 27th September and have the 1 year extension stamped in then. From my searches of this forum there are not.

If you wish to remain out of Thailand until November I suspect you will need to obtain a new visa and restart the whole process.

You have to return to Immigration on that date or start all over again.

A re-entry permit would only be good until the 27th. Entering after that date would only give you a 30 day entry unless you had a new visa and then started all over again with extension.

Thank you to you all for confirming what I suspected.

Any exit re-entry permit you get on an extension is only good until the end of that extension.

So in your case, even if you did get an re-entry permit it would expire on Sept 17th when your extension ends anyhow.

After that you would need a new visa of some kind (or a 30 day non visa entry if you arrived by air).

No way around it, if your extension expires on 27 September, then so does your exit re-entry permit.
