Hi

We have booked an appointment at Glasgow PEO on the 9th September and i am still waiting for a ESOL Certificate and i am in 2 minds if i should delay the appointment by a few days.

My wife completed 2 different ESOL Course's, One was a council ran course and the 2nd was ran by by a local collage.

We have a Letter stating that my wife was assessed at level 1 and she has gained level 2 plus the certificate from the council ran course, But so far we have only received a Letter stating that my wife was assessed at level 1 and she has gained level 2 from the local collage.

We were told that we would have the certificate by the end of August, But we are still waiting.

We have been in touch with the Collage who are trying to find out if the certificates have arrived at the collage, So its a waiting game.

I understand that the certificate and letter will be good enough from the local council, But we believe that the Collage course which my wife says was a lot harder will carry more clout.

If the certificate doesn't arrive from the collage, would you recommend just sending the letter from the collage and explaining the the Certificate has not arrived, Or delay the application until the following week.

(in the letter, It states that the Certificate was included in the letter)

Regarding changing the appointment dates, The information is very conflicting, On one page it says you can change the date 48 hours prior to the appointment and on another page it says, no more than 5 full working days and with the appointment part of the UKBA been down for maintenance this weekend, I am not sure that i would have 5 full working days.

I would advise that you delay the appointment. I seem to recall that one of my wife's friends sent her application in without the certificate as she had left it late and they got an FLR instead of the ILR due to the lack of certificate.

Malct, one course does not "carry more clout" than another.

Courses either meet the requirements, or they don't.

The ESOL qualification is either a relevant one, or it isn't.

Click on "ESOL and citizenship course" under "More Information" on this page for details. It will also tell you what documents are required.

If the council run course doesn't meet all the requirements, then you're going to have to either move the appointment or hope the certificate from the college arrives in time.

If the council course does meet all the requirements, then no problem; use that one.

Thank you for your reply's

The Collage Ran Course says slightly more in the letter than the council ran course, They both say that my wife was assessed at entry level 1 and has progressed to level 2, They are both Ascentis course's which are on the UKBA Web Site.

The Council ran course says , all our ESOL course contain some citizenship material where as the collage state that the ESOL course was delivered in a citizenship context and used learning materials derived from the citizenship materials for ESOL learners pack produced for the home office by NIACE and LLU+

Both the Council and Collage are subject to inspection by Ofsted.

So I guess its just the wording off both letters, But are the same course's.

If this is the case, Then we will just submit the council certificates only.

Some Good News, Not relying on the Collage, I contacted Ascentis direct and i explained about my situation, it looked liked my wife's exam papers where mislaid and after 24 hours, they managed to track down my wifes Exam papers, The certificate is now on its way to the collage and i will go and collect it tomorrow, just shows, If i had left it to the collage, I would have not got the Certificate in time for Monday.
