Why is being single in Bangkok so offensive?
By Molly Lanscombe

HOT MESS - "I’ve been single for years now."

BANGKOK: -- It’s hard to say that sentence without some people making a judgement about you. Some are convinced that I’m too unattractive or too irritating to find someone who’ll love me. Others presume that I am desperately trying to meet someone but I can’t.

AVIATION
Crisis management conference in Bangkok

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Over 100 aviation crisis management and emergency response professionals gathered in Bangkok today, to attend the 5th AAPA Emergency Response Conference organised by the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA).

Cohosted by Thai Airways International and Bangkok Airways, the conference was under the "Integration, Information and Continuity" theme. This year’s event discusses the integration, coordination and flow of information amongst relevant parties in times of crisis, within the emergency response framework.

"Crisis management and emergency response preparedness are closely linked. Aircraft accidents are rare events, but airlines also have to put in place contingency plans for other potential crises or events that may significantly affect airline operations.

In this region, we have already learnt some important lessons from past crises, such as Sars and avian flu outbreaks, as well as typhoons, volcanic ash clouds and a number of other natural disasters," said Andrew Herdman, AAPA Director General, in his welcome address.

Positive signs for Thai property market in Q4
By English News

BANGKOK, Sept 3 – Thailand’s property market will improve in the final quarter of the year given the opening of new projects and continued demand among consumers, the Government Housing Bank (GHB) projected today.

GHB President Angkana Chaimanat said new horizontal and vertical housing projects have been launched, reflecting public demand, especially for homes at less than Bt1.5 million per unit.

Offering Bt1.2 billion home loans since January, the GHB forecast a Bt7.6 billion net profit this year as targetted, she said.

Reporting the bank’s net profit in the first half of the year at Bt3.717 billion or a 0.87 per cent increase, with new loans at Bt57.661 billion or 31.67 per cent higher year-on-year.

Ms Angkana said subprime loans represented 8.3 per cent of total borrowings, and that the bank has set aside Bt10 billion for low interest lending – at 3.5 per cent for the first few years for loans at Bt100,000-300,000 with 10-year repayment – for home renovations.

The special offer is to mark the GHB’s 60th anniversary this year.

Samma Kitasin, director of the GHB property information centre, said many new housing projects have been launched, signalling a slight oversupply but far from being a property bubble. (MCOT online news)
