Starting Dates?

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I've been lurking for some time amassing information from this great community. One question remains for me, how important is the starting date when it comes to teaching english? I found one post that mentioned the school year in Thailand starts around april-may. I plan to be in Thailand around July on a tourist Visa (coming from Canada), do a TEFL course possibly at this school: http://www.teflteachthai.com/ and be ready for a job around August (already have a BFA and a good knowledge of English). Will I be able to find a job in August or even shortly after that despite the school year starting in April-May?

Any info on starting dates would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Yes the school year starts at the end of April...but this doesn't mean that you won't get work. Some schools just don't seem to realise that if they are on holiday they can't interview and hire teachers...so they come back and find they are short of staff and panic....check the web site below...at the moment it's crammed with jobs...by August they will have thinned out....

There are 2 kinds of work here really...you can teach in a school or you can teach in Business/commerce. Mostly adults and evenings but preferred by many. The private/business sector doesn't adhere so strictly to the Thai academic year so can be looking for teachers most of the year to some extent. A lot of the work is short term or part-time.

BTW are you a native English speaker? This makes it much easier to get work.....

Check this site for jobs....
