I applied for a fiance visa last September. Part of the application was giving evidence that we had met. My fiance and me have a daughter together so I just sent a copy of her birth certifcate and copy of her passport. This should show that we have met.

Needless to say about 2 months after filing the application I get a letter from Homeland Security requesting more evidence that we have previously met. They suggested show passport stamps. At that time I am thinking isn't us having a daughter together enough evidence that we have met! So anyway, I send entry/exit stamps from the last 5 years.

Now, I get another letter requesting more evidence that we have met. In the letter it stated it clearly shows that I have been to Thailand but it does not prove that I have previously met my fiance. So now they are suggesting I send film dated photographs of us together. Now I am thinking how f@#$% stupid can these people be. Isn't us having a baby together enough evidence to show that we have met.

Has anybody had this problem? What better evidence is there than having a baby together.

Also, I have photographs of us together but there is no dates on them. Can I just the write the dates on the back?

You are dealing with droids that are used to dealing with one type of "permissable" evidence and they can't deal with anything else. In addition, you are trying to use "logic" on an agency that is universally viewed as having no logical process. :o

Besides, you COULD have sent a test tube of your essence to the woman for a test tube baby, right? :D

So, yes, they want photographs. That's the main thing they want to see. Other things help to back up the photographs, like boarding passes, hotel receipts, passport stamps and the like. These things add substance to the photographs - but it is indeed photographs of you together that they want to see.

In the case of anyone getting ready for this process, it helps the situation even more if the people in the photographs are posed in front of some famous Thai landmark. Or some building with Thai characters on the front, etc. Spend some time on the "authoritative" site for US fiance visas, visajourney.

Film dated photographs are of course the best. However, you can just write the date and location on the back of the photographs - that's what I did - worked fine.

If the photos are digital the properties of each picture will show the date taken, just print the photo showing the details.

In theory perhaps, but these things are not immune from change or mis-interpretation - for example the picture you append appears to have been "modified 12/4/2006 at 14:21:56" but "taken 12/4/06 at 21:21:25" ; and although it's pretty evident it was taken in Thailand it certainly was not taken after 9.00 o'clock at night!
