Pretty scary. I hope no kids were hurt, looks like a lot of moving hazards there!

Scary....hope all are fine and no kids are hurt. Lucky this was not a big one.

I thought waterspouts happened at sea….. it's all very wizard of odd.

Off topic post re:911 removed. blink.png

Don't think they would have time to get drills. A hammer or 2 perhaps.

One of the girls in a green shirt looked as if she may have been a "Tom".

Pretty scary stuff. What happened to the water from the "waterspout"?

How far from the sea is the school?

Bet the cleaners whinged no end.

Waterspouts do occur at sea. On land they are called tornados.

Ah but what about a waterspout which hits land on the coast, which does happen...what they called ?

The video's name say's 9 kids were hurt, but I hope it was just minor injuries.

It must have been terrifying for those kids.

Nothing like having a plan in case of severe weather; but then again, we don't need no nanny state. I guess, kind of like wearing helmets, nothing serious is ever going to happen, so why take precautions.

Once a waterspout makes landfall, it is then officially a tornado.

Where is the freaking weather report when you need it, swallowed up by the FROG, ,.... oops aka Ploddi???? whistling.gifwhistling.gifwhistling.gifwhistling.gif

My deepest condolences to the kids ...

How scary for those kids, and their teachers! It looked as if they all coped pretty well, given the suddenness of the situation and seeing how some pretty heavy objects were being thrown around.

Well done kids! I hope the 9 weren't too seriously injured

Where in Trat was this? Trat Province or town? Does anyone know?

I think it might be a small school on the beach 20 kilos north of Klong Yai. One of the few roads to the talay from the highway near the "narrowest spot in Thailand" monument.

Thank you! We are on Koh Mak... not far away. Aside from the weather, it looks like a very nice school with nice tables, a computer room, nice grass, etc.

Are the walls of that school made of cardboard?

Sharknado!! Awesome SciFi movie btw ;)

It looks like none of the children were killed or injured. It also reflect how poorly set up Thailand is for property security and crowd crowd disaster control and management.

Honestly teacher, a waterspout ate my homework!

When a water spout runs ashore it dumps all of it's water in the spout within a hundred meters of the shoreline. When the water hits the deck the Tornado usually continues though sometimes fails concurrent with it's loss of water. The dynamics are the same whether water spout of tornado. Over water the tornado lifts water. Over land a tornado lifts debris. All the same to a tornado.

The quantity of water instantaneously dumped after landfall of the spout may be upwards of thousands of cubic meters of water.
