Hard for Thai police to find stolen car?

I have a neighbor that passed away in a hospital some time ago.
When his relatives came to take care of his belongings, they found that his new car was gone and also his bank ATM card has been frequently used after he passed away, and the account empty.

No doubt, his Thai girlfriend that lived in the house and used his car to visit him in hospital disappeared with the car and his ATM card.

The Police got copy of her Id card and passport, as well as the address of the house she had built in her home town. (for his money)

But the police have not been able to find her or the car, in several months. And the insurance company seems to be very relaxed about it.

I have heard some people say that she of course she paid the local cops, and then she was invisible as well as the car.

To me this is unbelievable, or should it not?

I believe it, check this one out :

I know of a case where a guy from Norway is having his life savings stolen from him by his own lawyer in Pattaya right now. He has Alzheimers so he doesn't even know it's happening. They got him to sign a power of attorney while diagnosed with Alzheimers then got a fake new diagnosis saying he doesn't have the disease. I guess they will dump him at the embassy once his money runs out. Corrupt lawyers, doctors, police, care workers and bodyguards are all working together to relieve this guy of his tens of millions of Baht. There is a case in the courts bought by his son regarding this at the moment but corruption is blocking all action from what I understand and the money is being whittled away by lawyers fees faster than you could imagine.

I doubt there's a lot you can do as corruption runs deep in some places.

There's nothing I can do, there's an ongoing court case where all of the above information has been presented so it's in the hands of the courts but things move very slowly.

The lawyers appear to be stretching the appearances out as long as possible using every delaying tactic in the book.

If the court case comes to nothing I will contact a journalist who specialises in this kind of thing.

don't wait for the court case to proceed.

I suppose the Norvegian embassy is in the loop?

Because assisting citizens who became mentally disabled is totally within an Embassy's consular duties, as well as informing the family.

And/or get your information to someone such as Drummond and see what he makes of it.

Unfortunately the Thai police force do not have a schema in preventative crime measures, or attending a situation until a crime has been committed, and it normally has to be a serious crime at that.

I know that they consider burglaries, minor sexual assaults, domestic disturbances, neighborly disputes, minor physical assaults and vehicle thefts as low priority crimes.

Their logic is, that it is up to the general public to adequately protect their property, secure and insure their vehicles and use common sense when placing any valubles or assets into the possession of others solely on trust.

Do not in anyway compare the Thai police with their counterparts in the West. For example, the Thai police force and other Thai law enforcement departments do not have anywhere near the resources at their deposal, nor the financial budgets or the experts in the field on their staff. They are under funded and under resourced.

That’s the way it is.
