Phitsanulok narcotics outbreak has been suppressed

The governor of Phitsanulok stated that the province's narcotic problem has subsided noticeably after intensive eradication efforts from October 2005-March 2006.

Mr. Pipat Wongsarote (พิพัฒน์ วงศาโรจน์), the governor of Phitsanulok, stated that the province has conducted a suppression and preventive campaign against drugs along a Roadmap plan, resulting in much lower narcotic rates in the province.

Mr. Pipat stated that from October 2005 to March 2006, more than 900 checkpoints have been set up, and more than 231 arrests made, with 265 suspects in custody.

In treatment of drug addicts, only 20 new cases have been reported, with 4 voluntary treatment patients, and 82 forced treatment patients, as well as 1 incarcerated addict.

The governor added that additional campaigns will be mounted to further prevent against narcotic outbreaks.
