Tourist Visa in new Passport issued in Bangkok

Featured Replies

I didn't find any information on this topic in the forum so I'm posting another topic.

My old passport was full, so I have a new passport recently issued by my embassy here in Bangkok. There are no stamps in it, except one entry stamp from a recent trip to Europe.

The issue is that I am looking to get a 60 day Tourist Visa at a Thai Embassy in the surrounding countries. But I am not sure if it will be a problem that my Passport was actually issued in Bangkok/Thailand.

Age: 30

Nationality: German

Thanks in advance for your advice!

No problem - you show both passports at exit point to be stamped out on the new one and then enter new country on the new passport and submit for visa normally.

Thanks lopburi3!

I am not worried about the exit stamps, but my concern is whether it will raise any eyebrows at the Thai embassy if you apply for a Tourist Visa and your passport says "Issued at Embassy in Bangkok" and "Residence: Bangkok"?

You did not mention your residence being on new passport as Bangkok (but even that could be temporary status during passport issue only). Most passports do not mention residence other than perhaps an emergency contact you can change at will. But do not believe Consulate will be concerned if you otherwise meet tourist visa criteria.

Residence? Bangkok? Your country of residence is Germany.

I always fill as contact address the address of Consular section at Embassy of my country, just because permanently registered with them. Passport also issued in Bangkok.

No questions at all.

Thanks MeowBundit!

I will do that then on my tourist visa application and hope it won't be a problem that the passport was issued in Bangkok.

I think he meant when he applied for his passport. Not visa application.

You will not have a problem with your passport being issued in Bangkok.

OP also won't have to show his old passport since he has an entry stamp in the new one.

Reading the above he has already departed the country and returned since he got the passport.

That's right ubonjoe, I went on one trip already with the new passport and go my 30-day stamp at the Airport upon my return to Thailand.

Now need to get a tourist visa...

My passport is issued in Tokyo...why would the country of issue be a problem? It's just how it is :) My previous passport was issued in LA.

I am from Belgium.

Your passport being issued in Thailand somehow indicates that you are staying here and goes against the argument that you want to enter Thailand as a "Tourist"...

But it doesn't seem to be an issue by all accounts smile.png

What the fellow is posting about is, on the front page of your passport, with your name, and date of birth and passport issued date and passport place of issue Bangkok.

I am a Canadian, Passport, born in Toronto. I have had a few, no problem as stated, you were here when your passport was full or for another passport related issued, stolen, lost passport and a new one was required.

I have had Canadian passports issued to me in a number of countries over a 40 year period, due to being full of visas and stamps or expiring soon. Means nothing...
