webfact
Flood Crisis Will Be Solved In 7 Days: Former PMBy Khaosod OnlineBANGKOK: -- Former Prime Minister Banharn Silpa-Acha told reporters he is expecting the flood crisis that has been inundating over a quarter of Thailand′s provinces to be solved within 7 days.He made the comment during his trip to the flooded area in Prachinburi province with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and other officials on 29 September. The time frame of 7 days for the crisis resolution could be achieved, he said, if the authorities followed the instruction ordered by the Prime Minister to pump water into Prachinburi River and Bang Pakong River.Asked by the reporters whether outgoing floodwater and rainwater from Sa Kaew province would worsen the situation in Prachinburi, Mr. Banharn said the government must quickly solve the short-term problem and plan for long-term improvements. The former Prime Minister also offered to take care of the situation instead of the Prime Minister, as she is busy with other issues.Meanwhile, Ms. Yingluck said that the Prachinburi Provincial Authority and the Royal Irrigation Department had been ordered to open Tha-Hae Watergate as requested by many residents, in order to release the water off Kabinburi district.Additionally, she has instructed the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to help evacuate people from the affected area, and provide them with necessity. At the same time, said the Prime Minister, the government will also study the affected area to prevent and relieve both short and long term flood crises.Earlier today, Ms. Yingluck and her team have also visited Warinchamrap district in Ubonratchathani province, where she inspected the current flood situation and handed out aids to the flood victims.Ms. Yingluck said that she had ordered the Department of Irrigation to carefully handle the flood, after 2,632 families fled their homes in the province.According to Ms. Yingluck, she will consider the plan, submitted to her by a group of locals, to build 2 water pumping stations and develop the roads in the district to prevent further flooding. The plan is estimated to cost 100 million baht.So far, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that 27 provinces have been damaged by the flood, causing the evacuation of approximately 15,00 people. Over 2 million people have been affected, and at least 21 people reportedly killed. The flood might be worsened by an oncoming typhoon from South China Sea. According to the Thai Meteorological Department, Typhoon Wutip has made landfall in Vietnam and is expected to hit northern and northeaster regions of Thailand before dissolving in the next few days. The department warned that the said typhoon will cause heavy rains and strong winds and may prolong the flood in many provinces already ravaged by the disaster.Source: http://www.khaosod.co.th/en/view_newsonline.php?newsid=TVRNNE1EVTBOelExTnc9PQ==-- KHAOSOD English 2013-10-

Popular Post NongKhaiKid
What this old fool was quoted as saying yesterday about 7 days also included a comment to the effect " IF there's no more rain " which is ridiculous at the best of times in the rainy season and beyond words when the tropical storm hadn't yet crossed into Thailand. Why are Thai officials obsessed with putting a timeframe, usually unrealistic, on everything ? It may be designed to make them look decisive and efficient but only serves to make them bigger fools than usual when the time set isn't met.

The country is so fortunate the PM is an expert hydrologist, however there appears to be some doubt in Banharn's mind that her orders will in fact be followed.

Chang_paarp
Why is Mr B suddenly at the forefront of this or does he want to ensure his own fiefdom wont be flooded. Who's nephew/son (?) was minister for water and ordered various dams to release water not so long ago????? It is going to be a wet month in a lot of places. Who is taking bets on BKK getting its feet wet? (Hypothetically speaking, as we all know it is illegal to gamble your own money {or that which you have "borrowed"} in Thailand)
Popular Post arthurboy
Why is Mr B suddenly at the forefront of this or does he want to ensure his own fiefdom wont be flooded. Things seem to be afoot with this buffoon back in the political limelight. Given his political track record of utter ineptitude and his often suspicious, less than transparent business activities over the years (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banharn_Silpa-archa), I have to wonder why is Banharn's so-called expertise in this and the reconciliation process now in such demand? I don't comment on Thaksin's involvement in Thai politics, but Banharn's miraculous resurrection and return from the political graveyard has to be at the behest of the man in Dubai. The question is why? Edited October 1, 2013 by arthurboy

A broken timeline is irrelevant in the Thai sphere.

No I think Mr. Plob made one silly suggestion too many and her highness cried: "off with his head"...! So Mr. B therefore seems to be of the opinion that he now qualifies for the position of Minister of Silly Suggestions.
