Popular Post NomadJoe
So Thai's have finally discovered the concept of preparation. They will have to create a Thai word for it now. They will probably just create a string of existing Thai words like they have done for "ice" and "airplane" etc. Something like "think do already" would suffice.

In 2011 a couple of Japanese businessmen interviewed on television, the BBC I think, said if it happened again they would have to relocate, as did a Singaporean. The Japanese also said they didn't think the Thai government would do much about proper flood prevention in the future.

Popular Post pisico
The yearly floods that have been affecting this geographical zone for eons is another example of Thainess inaction. Thais are like children: self absorbed in their Thainess and unable to be proactive. To something preventable, they always try to explain/dismiss it by analyzing why "it probably happened" and seldom, if ever, doing something about it. Yesterday I commented about the flood situation and this Thammasat graduate in history and philosophy said that Farang always criticize Thais. "Can't you see that a flood is something that happens every year?" He blurted out. It is not a surprise that in 2 years little was done to diminish the effect of floods on the economy and protect citizens lives and their property. A child cannot see where the money to buy his/her toys come from. A child does not care nor can see beyond of what is going on in his/her mind at the moment. A child is primordially full of sane instincts but, a child cannot plan or see ahead of the moment in which he/she is in: because the frontal lobe is still developing. Thais are that way. Only after a flood brings about hard economic times and factories and, most importantly, foreign investments go to more favorable lands, only then, Thais will begin to understand that they have to tackle the ills that erode the quality of live in the country: corruption, disregard for the rule of law, among others, and the yearly floods... and be consistent about it.

Popular Post jalansanitwong
I thought it was interesting that many Thais didnt dismantle the little 'temporary' brick walls they built against the 2011 floods. They dont believe their government anymore than we do. Theyre thinking ahead . They'll have to learn to work together as a community...the little oligarchy of PTP serves to only make them more destitute and use & abuse them. I noticed the brick/cement wall thing too & thought likewise..they've seen it all a few too many times.

They dont believe their government anymore than we do. Theyre thinking ahead . ---------------------------- Yes that's true, There are still houses around me a year later we I lived in November 2011 that still have brick or sand bags around there houses ....... some with little steps over then to make it easier to climb over them into the house. So don't say THAI'S are all stupid, just blame THAI POLITICIANS especially the current governing set of political crooks whose real priority is not serving the Thai people, themselves, by enriching themselves . It seems that the political system in Thailand produces good honest working people, who have to solve problems themselves because their elected politicians are to stupid to solve anything for them.

thhMan
As long as Farang have no voice (or any real rights for that matter), then Thailand only has its own people to listen too, which is not exactly healthy. It has only bred layers of lies through the years and nobody is smart or brave enough to go head to head with Govt for the peoples sake.

webfact
Governor confident Bangkok will avert floodingBy English NewsAYUTTHAYA, Oct 1 – Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra today reaffirmed that the overall flood situation in the Thai capital is not worrisome though more effort to speed up draining is needed in time of heavy downpours.Speaking after inspecting water situation in central Ayutthaya province, Mr Sukhumbhand expressed confidence that Bangkok will not be flooded as large volumes of water have been discharged from the Pasak Cholasit Dam to the Pasak River via the Rama VI Dam, before flowing to the Chao Phraya River, bypassing Bangkok going to the Gulf of Thailand.Meanwhile, water stored in the Rama VI Dam is also being released to the Raphipat canal through the Phra Narai sluice gate before reaching the eastern side of Bangkok.Mr Sukhumbhand said that the overall flood situation is not worrisome since the volume of water being discharged from the dam was not as great as in 2011.The Royal Irrigation Department and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) have been working closely to prevent flooding, he said, explaining that the capital has the capacity to handle water running through the Chao Phraya River at 2,900 cubic metres per second. As of now, water in the Chao Phraya River is flowing at 2,300 cubic metres per second. The governor, however, expressed concern over the city’s drainage system as the authorities still need to expedite draining water in time of heavy downpour.
