Muhendis
"Newly-appointed Attorney General Athapol Yaisawang set up a committee to discuss Mr Chulasingh’s decision against the indictment and promised to treat the case fairly. It depends on whether the committee finds new evidence to charge Mr Thaksin and reverse the former attorney general’s decision, said Mr Nantasak." A review means look at the case and the evidence as was presented at the time. I take it that is what is meant when the committee is to discuss Mr. Chulasingh's decision. If there is new evidence to be presented then the case will need to be re-opened for appeal.
centrala
I am wondering if the new AG might have a political bias, rather than being unbiased, first he decides to drop the terrorism charges against Thaksin and the decides to charge Abhisit and Suthep. If there is sufficient evidence to warrent the dropping of charges against a furgitive who is on the run, then fine, and if there is sufficient evidence to indict someone who was carrying out thier duty against an armed mob that had terrorised the populace, invaded a hospital and set fire to at least one building in the commercial heart of the city causing disruption to the livelihoods of a large number of retailers, then go ahead. If however, the AG is acting with political bias, then perhaps the same commitee which is reviewing the dropping of charges against the fugitive former PM should also investigate the AG's actions. Wrong, completely wrong. This AG did not drop the terrorism charges against Thaksin. That was done in October by the previous AG Always amusing when someone screams "wrong" at another poster and then immediately posts something wrong in their own post. The previous AG retired and left office in September. . Edited October 29, 2013 by centrala

yoshiwara
so when Taksin is expected to be welcome in Thailand ? Don't hold your breath. There is still a very major obstacle to his return. Think about it. For Thaksin, returning while that obstacle is still around would give him legitimacy. Waiting until after the obstacle has left the stage, leaves Thaksin up against the wishes and desires of the remaining legacy. In short, the legacy may be a bigger threat to Thaksin if already gone. This is the fear of the little crook. Edited October 29, 2013 by yoshiwara
slapout
The annocement of the dropping of charges was handled about the same way some people use a statue of limitations or even a nations borders to keep from facing justice, embarrasement, jail time, etc. The AG retired from office, thus assuring himself of a nice retirement and possibly future employment in somer capacity, then announced he had dropped the charges, prior to his retirement. Mired in dubious timing coupled with a highly suspect subterfuge is a hallmark of just about anything involving Thaksin. . The new AG has decided to send the murder charges against abhisit and suthep to the courts. The new AG is now apparently thinking about repealing the decision of his predecessor and reinstating the charge of terrorism against Thaksin. Hardly the actions of a man "bought" by Thaksin, one would have thought. Jumping to conclusions aren't we? Thinking and doing are not the same thing! Let's wait until we see the results of his review of his predecessor's decision, the one who retired under PTP, before we all crow about his freedom from political influence shall we?
