Pictures courtesy of Siam Rath BANGKOK - Police in Samut Prakan crack down on an international motorbike theft ring, arresting three suspects and recovering over ten stolen bikes. On 4th July 2025, under the direction of Pol. Lt. Gen. Surapol Preumbutr and Pol. Maj. Gen. Wichit Boonchinwutthikul, a major operation dismantled a cross-border motorbike theft network. The operation led to the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of more than ten stolen motorbikes, with seven already returned to their owners. The gang allegedly intended to sell them abroad. The crackdown began on 2nd July when investigators from Samut Prakan City Police Station arrested two men, Sitthithep (surname withheld), 32, and Kamolchai (surname withheld), 29, for nighttime theft. They were apprehended at a condo in Ladprao, Bangkok, along with ten stolen bikes. These included five from Samut Prakan, one from Phetchakasem, and one from Bang Na. Many had altered engine and chassis numbers to disguise their origin. Investigations revealed that on 1st July, the two suspects stole five bikes in Samut Prakan. Sitthithep would hot-wire and stash the stolen bikes, while Kamolchai hid them at the condo. They then removed ignition barrels to make new keys before relocating the bikes to a spot near a coach terminal bound for Ubon Ratchathani. Further investigations uncovered that the duo stole more Honda Wave 110i models, five from Samut Prakan and one from Samrong Nuea, selling them to Sarawut (surname withheld), referred to as "Jo", and a Lao national named Fon, for 10,000-20,000 baht each. On 3rd July, the police arrested Sarawut for handling stolen goods near his residence in Ubon Ratchathani. Sarawut, identified as a bus terminal supervisor, concealed the bikes under buses heading to Na Tan, close to the Laos border, to be smuggled and sold internationally by Fon for 60,000-70,000 baht each. Samut Prakan police urge anyone suspecting their motorbike was stolen by this gang to contact them and inspect recovered vehicles at the Samut Prakan City Police Station. Accident Couple Killed Instantly After Driving Wrong Way Into Path of Truck

A road crash claimed the lives of a couple in the early hours of the morning of 4 July, after their motorcycle, travelling against traffic, was struck by an 18-wheeler truck in Samut Prakan province. The crash occurred at around 00:30 on Theparak Road inbound at kilometre marker 9, just before the Kanchanaphisek Expressway entrance in Bang Kaew subdistrict, Bang Phli district. Upon arriving at the scene, Pol. Lt. Nares Leechareon from Bang Kaew Police Station found two victims lying in the road amidst a pool of blood. Emergency personnel from Chularat Suvarnabhumi Hospital and forensic doctors from Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital attempted CPR but were unable to revive them. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased were identified as Mr Sunan Suanmak 33, and Ms Malaporn Khanasa 45. Nearby, authorities discovered pieces of their helmets, scattered footwear and motorcycle parts strewn across the road. Their black Honda motorcycle was found wedged underneath the truck. The truck involved was an 18-wheeled Hino hauling a shipping container, registered in Bangkok. The 52-year-old driver, Mr Panchai, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with police. Mr Panchai told officers he was on his way to deliver goods in the Bang Kradi area. As he approached the expressway on-ramp, he noticed a motorcycle heading in the wrong direction in the parallel lane. Moments later, the motorcycle suddenly veered across the lane directly in front of his truck. Despite his efforts to brake, the heavy vehicle could not stop in time and struck the couple at full speed. Initial investigations suggest the couple had been riding against the flow of traffic and were attempting to cut across Theparak Road when they were fatally hit. Police suspect they may have been trying to reach a slip road on the opposite side. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations to confirm the exact details of the crash. The bodies have been sent to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital’s forensic institute.
