For those of us who spend several months a year away from the cold, enjoying the warmth of Thailand, our healthcare system will now accommodate a longer period away before being cancelled.

Just announced: from The Edmonton Journal article -

EDMONTON - Travellers from Alberta can now stay outside Canada for seven months a year without losing their health-care privileges.

That's a month longer than the current limit of six months.

Dave Quest, associate minister for seniors, says the change takes effect immediately.

He says it allows Albertans to travel for longer periods of time without worrying about health coverage.

And: from The Edmonton Sun article -

If you've already fled Alberta's frigid temperatures, the provincial government says you can now vacation an extra month without losing your health benefits.

Announced Tuesday, the government says Albertan vacationers and snowbirds can now be outside of the country for up to seven months or 212 days without losing their health care coverage, a one month increase effective immediately
