Keeping my condo dust-mite free

Featured Replies

It seems in the last year I've developed a dust mite allergy. Almost every night I have a blocked up and inflamed nose/sinus.

I vacuum my condo every few days, and wash bedding once a week.

I was wondering if there are any other things I can do? I have tried medicine - antihistamines and nasal steroids, but they didn't help at all.

The main reason it bothers me is because I have a hard time sleeping with a blocked nose, so in the daytime I'm often tired.

I've seen those flashy air purifiers at paragon, but it is my understanding dust mites are heavy and don't tend to be airborne much.

If anyone has any tips that work for me, I'll be forever grateful.

It's the feces that you are allergic to. Eucalyptus oil will kill and repel them. Put 25 drops into 2 cups of water and use it as a spray for your bedding, bed, etc. etc.

Sunlight kills them. Hang your bedding etc. out if you can.

If the humidity drops below 50% they die. If you can get there with aircon or a dehumidifier, you're golden.

Good luck. We don't have them where I am in the US because we have low humidity. But when I lived in the South we fought them, usually with the Eucalyptus oil mix.

Your vacuum cleaner may aggravate the problem by creating an aerosol of the mite faeces when using it. Make sure it has a proper "HEPA" filter.

Have air conditioners cleaned regularly (3mths) by a professional cleaner with proper high pressure equipment.

Routinely do "damp dusting" of your house.
