BANGKOK: -- Police said they have arrested an anti-government protester who was carrying a handgun stolen from a police officer during the clashes in Bangkok last week.

Mr. Sura Khaonet, 31, was stopped by police patrols in Bangkok′s Bang Plad district yesterday after the officers noticed him acting suspiciously at a bus stop on Charansanitwong Road.

He identified himself as a security guard at the anti-government protests. Police then searched his belongings and found a pistol, which Mr. Sura explained to have taken from his fellow volunteer guard, Private Kitti Mahaglan, 21.

Mr. Sura, a resident of Nakhon Si Thammarat province, claimed he has taken the bag from Private Kitti and realised later that a gun was left inside. He told police he intended to sell the handgun to his friend who lives on Rama II Road, but he somehow took the wrong bus and ended up being arrested in Bang Plad.

Police has charged Mr. Sura with carrying firearms in public with any permission.

Despite the suspect′s attempt to erase the gun’s identification number, further investigation indicated revealed that the gun belongs to Pol.Col. Chukiat Wongsitthikorn, who reportedly lost his firearm as he was assaulted by anti-government protesters at the clashes around Thai-Japan Stadium on 26 December 2013.

Police said Pol.Col. Chukiat, a Deputy Chief of Nakhon Sawan Provincial Police Station, had previously filed complaint about his stolen handgun at Din Daeng Police Station.

So the black shirts are Police....? Anti Government guard arrested admitting to an extent his guilt (wearing a black shirt).

I think it may be 5 people shot, one from a known red shirt guard and the rest Anti Government guards or protesters, gee this is going to get really ugly again, not to mention horribly confusing. Suthep has not been arrested, despite charges, economy sliding along with the baht and everyone walks around like nothing is happening. Shame, shame, shame old Siam when will you learn the true meaning of Democracy???I doubt that many of the insecure and those self scented people of Bangkok ever will. Go on get more pistols and bombs and lets see if it enacts any change. It wont... Full stop.

The guy is a typical southern thug liar. I wouldn't believe a word he is saying except check to see if that gun matches the one who killed the police officer.

While you're at, why not check to see if this was the gun used in the McKinley assassination. It has about as much to do with first story as the second one you're trying to tie this gun to.

The Question is , regardless of who , what , where , what are you going to charge this Anti- govt protester with, carrying a fire arm in public , not stealing a police officers gun , so far, the police have been far from satisfactory in any thing that suggests anything that resembles law and order, more like a game in a girls play ground, its time the clowns in brown got their act together and started policing Thailand properly, now that's the hard part, betcha London to a brick that wont happenbah.gif .

So what? Do you mean only people from Bangkok are allowed to protest? Care to explain the relevance of your statement.

I am sure the gun was stolen from his car and that he didn't have it on him because he knew the rules of engagement. However it seems the protesters didn't..

The policeman himself said otherwise

the gun belongs to Pol.Col. Chukiat Wongsitthikorn, who reportedly lost his firearm as he was assaulted by anti-government protesters at the clashes around Thai-Japan Stadium on 26 December 2013.

The problem with a story like this - even if it was true - is that given CAPO's intense efforts in recent days to walk back from a mountain of clearly self-incriminating evidence regarding last week's tragic event, people no longer trust what they say. If there is a credibility gap, that is where it squarely lies. And the CAPO's reputation has never been more damaged than it is now. So much so, that even if Marlon Brando himself reprised his Oscar winning role, this time posed in the guise of the head of CAPO, it would not be enough to salvage that reputation.

Nothing reported in any other media outlet, just Khaosod the northern rag.

Would have thought this to be hot news that everyone would be jumping on, unfortunately for Khaosod and the red mob, most other media check for reliability before publishing.

Even more probability that this is bullshit and made up.

I agree CAPO reputation is down the drain. But they are very hard working people coming up with stories that you have to w00t.gif

Can they come with lies which are more sophisticated? Or they need to cope with the northeast audiences too! Making money from the big boss is not easy I guess.
