Thai Main Roads

A farang man on a Phuket beach was deep in prayer.

Suddenly, the clouds parted and above his head in a booming voice he heard the Lord say.

"Because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, and you have never been tempted by the ways of soi Bangla etc, I will grant you one wish."

The man said Build me a road that runs from Phuket to my wife’s home in Udon Thani that wont collapse and be full of pot holes within a week, also make this road safe so I can drive it anytime I want without fear of having to pay tea money to the local constabulary.

The Lord said, "Your request is very materialistic. Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking, the support and teachings that the Thai would need to make such a road, and what about all the concrete and steel it would take. It will nearly exhaust several natural resources of the Thai Kingdom. Also the Thai royal mint would have to work overtime just to print the baht just to pay the corruption fees that would be involved in such a project. I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for one worldly thing that would just make your travel easier. Please take a little more time and think of something that would honour and glorify me and help the non believers come to understand that there is a higher being.

The man thought about it for a long time. Finally he said Lord, I wish that I could understand my Thai wife. I want to know how she feels inside; what she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment; what she means when she says mai phen rai; and she says nothing's wrong when she is crying her eyes out. I really want to know how I can make a Thai woman truly happy and if you can do this for mankind for sure you will have many many more believers in you Lord.

The Lord replied,

"You want three lanes or four on that road."
