No coup attempt: Army spokesman

BANGKOK: -- The Army spokesman Friday denied that there was coup attempt going on earlier in the day.

Col Akkara Tiproj, the spokesman of the Royal Thai Army, said some people might have mistaken a normal training by some army divisions as attempts to mobilise personnel to stage a coup.

Akkara said the Anti-aircraft Artillery Division moved out ten trucks of its personnel to have training outside their barrack onto Phaholyothin Road, and this might cause the people to misunderstand.

The spokesman said the soldiers would return to their barrack after the training.

Earlier the day, Chai-anan Samudvanij, commander of the Vajira School, said he had learnt that some 40 tanks had been moved out of a military compound heading to Bangkok.
