Hi everyone -- I'm looking for an inexpensive, quiet getaway place with water and/or trees where family of three can stay with two little friendly pugs for weekends. Can be bungalow/house/apartment, but no more than about an hour's drive from central Bangkok. Thanks for your advice.

Not sure about somewhere you could stay for two days but still being within an hour drive from Bangkok. But you might try Bang Krachao. It's an island formed by the Chao Phraya river, easily reached by a taxi and a boat.

We usually take a taxi to the Klong Toey Port, then head to the pier through a small soi, get a boat to cross the river (10 Baht per person) and rent a bike to go around the island (100 Baht per day). It's a great place, and we have seen people come with their dogs too.

Thank you for your replies. None of those places quit fits the bill. A couple in Pattaya look fine, but it's bit out of my driving range and hotel adds up when they charge for each dog.

Now I'm wondering if there is a site where I can find a private individual who has a suitable rustic house I could rent weekends. English or Thai. Anyone know?

dave, available now is a 1 bedroom garden bungalow, 2 aircon, fridge, washing machine, water heater, kitchenette.

we are 4km west from sai thai mai - southern bus terminal. It's on the other side of the river from the siam sq. From khaosan rd/the old town it's 15 minutes on a free elevated motorway.

It's still bangkok, suburbs, border of the districts talling chan and thawi wattana, but very close to Nonthaburi (a province north of bkk).

long walks with dogs through nature along canals, including a major khlong maha sawat, and along a railway line. We also have a boat to paddle on a canal which is 20m away.

rent 450b/night, 2.5k week, 5k month. For weekend that would be 900b, with check in any time on friday and check out any time on sunday.
