Visa Ext stamp transfer to new passport question

Featured Replies

I recently received a new US passport with the letter from the US consulate asking Thai immigration to transfer the current visa extension to my new passport. I plan on leaving for Cambodia next week. Is this something that can be done at the airport?

Thank you for any advise.

I turned in my application yesterday morning at Jomtien to have my stamps transferred. The form, the letter, and copies of

- the new passport data page

- the old passport data page

- my last arrival card

- my last entry stamp

- the original visa on which my extensions are based

- my current extension

- my current Re-Entry Permit

Then they gave me a numbered red chit and told me to come back the next day after 1pm. This was at the desk which handles extensions, since that's where the needed stamps are.

Some Immigration offices may do it same-day, or even while you wait, but you can't get this handled at the airports.

You need to get the your extension of stay (visas are not extended).and re-entry permit transferred to your new passport. You could be delayed on leaving and re-entering plus you need to use both passports.

Download and fill out this form. http://immigration.go.th/nov2004/download/pdf/transferstamp.pdf

Make copies of passports and TM6 departure card mentioned in post before this one.

Thank you so much for this info. You were right. Went to Thai Immigration today (12 noon) at Major Hollywood, Bangkok, turned in the documentation you suggested and within 30 minutes had the necessary stamps in my new passport and was out of there. And there was no fee. Thanks again and I know you saved me a lot of hassle at the airport!
