Popular Post WormFarmer
OK listen up everybody. We now have a date and venue for the next Isaan Farmers Meeting. Packdee has kindly offered to host this at his specialist mushroom farm. He has asked me to kick-off this notice as he is not familiar with what has happened in the past, whereas I am. If you want to know more about Packdee and his mushrooms, then have a look at : http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/user/178178-packdee/. We haven’t had a meeting at a mushroom farm before so this could prove most interesting and educational. Date: The meeting will be on Saturday 29 March 2014. This date has been chosen to avoid the chaos on the roads that will happen over the various holidays in April, especially Songkhran and hopefully to be before the rains start. Venue: Packdee’s mushroom farm is just on the border of Isaan, not so far from Korat. I attach a map which shows his approximate location but full navigational instructions will be included nearer the time. Although it is on the border of Isaan it is conveniently located for all you guys who live along route 24 and I am sure aussieruss will be very happy since it is less than 30 minutes drive from him. Lunch: For those who arrive in time there will be a Thai lunch provided by Packdee and his wife, for which you will be asked to chip in 200 Baht per person. As our regular drinks sponsor (TV member DaveHKT) has already intimated that he will divvy up for beer again, drinks will be free, at least for a while. Packdee will need to know how many plan to arrive in time for lunch. Afternoon Agenda: After lunch we’ll get to look around Packdee’s mushroom farm and he will give a talk on how to grow mushrooms. Evening: It is proposed that in the evening we repair to Banrai Jomthong Resort which belongs to a friend of Packdee, to continue the social aspect of the meeting. We’ll take with us any remaining free beer. Approximate location of the resort is also shown on the attached map. If you Google Banrai Jomthong you’ll be able to check it out, it is not the usual sort of short-time resort we have used in the past and looks pretty nice. Price of dinner will depend on what you order from the menu. Accommodation: Some may wish to stop-over at Banrai Jomthong Resort, for which you can book on line at a variety of websites. However staying there is not a pre-requisite to attending dinner. The booking for dinner will be completely independent of where you choose to stay. Some will probably go home and some may wish to stay elsewhere so it is up to individuals to make their own arrangements for accommodation. Information Required: Within a reasonable time please post on this thread: 1. How many people will be arriving for lunch; 2. How many people will be there for the afternoon; 3. How many people wish to attend the dinner. Nuff said – come along, this is a new and interesting subject to learn about. Popular Post Packdee
Thank you very much WormFarmer.I plan to have a brief mushroom growing training for growing the Milky mushroom and other that you can grow your own mushrooms at home with simple technique.(Normally one day training costs at least 2,000 Baths but it's free in this meeting) After practicing you can bring back home "growing at home kit" like this with reasonable price.

IsaanAussie
Well done Packdee and Wormfarmer. I wont be able to attend but would suggest anyone who can, makes the effort. Colonel Packdee assisted me greatly with our mushroom venture and has a wealth of knowledge on the subject and can offer valuable assistance in locating equipment locally made for a range of farming ventures. Get behind this meeting guys. Good luck all.
AA1
Where does one start! Packdee. Thank you so much for your very generous offer to host Isaan Farmers Meeting No. 10 and the kindness of your wife to produce us with lunch. Having read about your mushroom venture before, I will be most interested to learn a bit on how we can grow them! I very much look forward to meeting you on the 29th. March. WormFarmer. Thank you so much for organising this fascinating Meeting. It has been worth the delay in between Meetings 9 & 10. This is something special as we will be getting advise and inspiration from an expert. I love eating mushrooms so can't wait to learn how I should grow them properly!! In answer to the Information you require:- 1). There will be 2 for lunch - My wife and I (Ting and Anthony). 2). so the same 2 will be there for the afternoon 3). and the same 2 wish to attend the dinner. By that time I will NOT want drive back to Surin!! so I will be arranging for us to stay at the Banrai Jomthong Resort. DaveHKT. We look forward to toasting our super sponsor again. We also look forward to the day when we might be able to toast you in person!! Thanks so much. Will much look forward to seeing old friends again as well as meeting new ones. AA1
Will much look forward to seeing old friends again as well as meeting new ones. Come and join us as it will be well worth while. Sad Bergen that you will not be amongst them. BERGEN. Please accept my humblest apologies. I have just found that I have made a most embarrassing mistake when I typed my acceptance to the next Meeting and typed your name at the end when it should have been IsaanAussie as being unable to come. I just can't think what came over me. I can only put it down to Old age and Senile dementia or something like that. Of course I DO hope that you will be able to come as it will be lovely to see your cheery face again. Please forgive me even if it means I will have to humbly 'kiss your toes' at the Meeting!!!!!! Popular Post WormFarmer
well i see that thaivisa is populated by a certain breed of character who i have nothing in common with so thats an out for me. Hi Bad Angel. That's an extraordinary thing to say. Am I missing something, are you, as aussieruss assumes, referring to the wind-turbines as members of TV with whom you have nothing in common? in which case I apologise for missing the joke. However, if your comments are intended to be read as written then I would agree with you that certainly there are more than a few characters on TV who have questionable agendas, but you should not lump everyone into the same pot. The Farming in Thailand Forum generally tends to attract the non-yob end of foreigners in LOS and those who have attended Farmers Meetings in the past have all, without exception, been of the more responsible type of farang. Whether or not you wish to attend the meeting is entirely up to you, no one is forcing you, but please do not attempt to equate hard working Isaan Farmers with some of the other hooligan elements to be found in other Forums on TV. Having said that, we'll hope that you can make it to the meeting and enjoy meeting some new people. WormFarmer

Packdee
Is there anyone here who uses to serve Eight US Army in Korea? I was in UNC Honor Guard Company during 1979 to 1980. Packdee
The meeting place is in Saraburi but it's next to Isaan border. The compound will be a part of veterans vocational training center. A four-room guest house and a mushroom training shelter. LAB house for mushroom culture and spawn preparation. .
WormFarmer
Packdee, Nice photos, did you take them from a helicopter, the top of a hill or from the top of a wind-turbine? WormFarmer
Packdee
Packdee, Nice photos, did you take them from a helicopter, the top of a hill or from the top of a wind-turbine? WormFarmer I took photos from a hill behind my place. It is the edge of a Isaan Pleteau in Sikiu area. From that stone.
AA1
If you are finalising your diaries before confirming that you can coming to the next meeting, may I suggest you also look at the Thread "Milky Mushroom (Calocybe Indica) Cultivation" which Col. Packdee started just under a year ago. Several postings are from farmers already well known to us (sadly we know 2 are not going to be out of the country) but seeing the size of the mushrooms IsaanAussie grew, thanks to Col. Packdee, make one's mouth water. Whether you thinking you might grow commercially or for self needs or just learn more about mushrooms, it will be a fascinating meeting. Write it into you diary and let us know you will be coming!
DaveHKT
K. Packdee, I'm having problems trying to get a message to you, could you please PM your email address to me. Thanks Wormfarmer, "...drinks will be free, at least for a while" and there I was thinking farmers didn't drink much. Consider the supply doubled. Enjoy Dave
Dancealot
Excellent, so we'll be going to a plateau, after all. Packdee, thank you for hosting this year's meeting and I love to look at the pictures you have posted here. That stone doesn't look easy to climb.. Wormfarmer thank you for taking the time to post the invitation. Bergen, please come, we have to represent our generation^... It'll be fun. I'll bring some pretz.. aussieruss, can you make it? I thought you were due to come in April.. IA, hope to see you one day. BAD ANGEL, whoever you are: it doesn't matter to me. No worries. DaveKHT, thanks, again, we'll make it a loud toast! I lost track of the meeting developments a month ago when Packdee was considering to host. I'm very glad to hear it's all set. You can count me and my woman in from lunchtime untill the end. Popular Post DaveHKT
Hi guys, I was hoping to put in an appearance for IFM #10. The prospect of meeting up with you people with the added bonus of taking in Col. Packdee's enterprise was something to look forward to. Unfortunately this won't happen this time as business commitments (my better half's not mine) make it look as we are both going to be tied up for the whole of next month. If I can squeeze a weekend end away I will certainly try and make the journey. I the meantime I hope you all enjoyCol Packdee's hospitality "& who knows I could always make a surprise appearance and sample the odd 'free beer or two'. If anyone fancies a karaoke let the Colonel know. Dave
cooked
I just read the mushroom thread and can feel myself weakening, please don't write me off just yet. Like DaveHKT I may have to put off the final decision until a few days before the day.
Bluetongue
I wonder why I didn't look at Packdee's thread earlier. Anyway I think its a good one. Plus it seems reasonably close to me in Chantaburi so that's an attraction too. I am making plans so hope to see you all there, will let you know

Sent from my i-mobile i-style 7.1 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app Hi Revar, note that if you want rooms you must make your own arrangements, you can book Banrai Jomthong Resort, which is where we'll be meeting later for dinner, on-line at several of the usual hotel booking sites or book somewhere else, but since you live so close maybe you won't need a room. Depends how much free you drink. Cheers WF
