The real reason the rice farmers are not getting paid

The title (mostly so bor kor) to the bulk of the farm land in the North of thailand was obtained by people by settlement and working the land.

Back in those days (post WWII), the Thai elite in Bangkok were happy for that to happen because the land was viewed as worthless.

Now the hottest new investment theme globally is agricultural land.

The elite, including the banks, now want all of that land back.

The rice scheme (and other policies such as the new car rebate) were just debt traps set for the unsuspecting farmers.

Those traps have now been sprung.

And in good time all of that now (quite valuable) agricultural land will pass back to the banks, then on to the Thai elite, and then, most likely be sold to the Chinese who are currently buying every tract of farmland they can.

Very badly researched (and slightly surreal).

Now, the mods on this board have asked time and again that political issues are not discussed in General Topics and that such posts should be made in the Thai news forum.

Therefore, please find a suitable thread in the Thai news forum and re-post this there.
