Statins really are killers unless taken by a person with existing cardio-vascular disease in moderation to reduce inflammation. Spacedoc, who wrote the book "Lipitor: Thief of Memory" has got lots of good information on his site spacedoc.net.

Statins do not reduce inflammation - exercising, reducing as much as it is feasible to do sugar/HFCS/simple carbohydrates, eliminating (as much as possible) cooking oils that are high in omega 6 are the ways to reduce inflammation. I only use organic virgin coconut oil for cooking and virgin olive oil for everything else, as it denatures when exposed to high heat.

Cholesterol BTW has little to nothing to do with cardio vascular disease, it is, as you have quite rightly pointed out, primarily to do with excessive inflammation within the body!!

Statins make you ill and deplete your 'vital life giving' COQ10 - cholesterol is just as vital to life actually as without it the cellular processes in your body would cease (as would your life)!!

I order from iherb all of the time with no problems, you might have ordered something like 5htp which is one of the few restricted supplements. I have received a package as recently as a few days ago. I highly recommend picking up some NAC and glutathione to help your bodies combat the extremely toxic air. All of my packages under $60 USD in value have arrived directly without going to customs.

They deplete life giving COQ10 and are a major cause of strokes and heart attacks - precisely the thing they are supposed to guard against!!!

If you want to take these then that's up to you - I have already dissuaded several of my mates not to take them bearing in mind they are so dangerous and do nothing for you!!

But they would have to open the box to know.

There's no indication on the box what supplements it contains.

Many supplements are restricted above a certain dose.

You both have good points but what you fail to understand is people react differently. I was on Lipitor and because of the weirdest side effects had to get off it. For some others no problem. My cholesterol is now within good limits. Not going to tell you how as I don't want to hear how it won't work when I am living proof that it will. Or a long list of the dangers of it that is unfounded.

Some one mentioned the various kinds of olive oil I was recently told rice oil was even better for you. Just what I was told have no way of proving it. They said it was no good on a salad.facepalm.gif

I listen to and read trustworthy research and not what big pharma tries to hoodwink you into believing with their flawed research, lies and the withholding of research that reflects badly on their drugs and misleads people into thinking that they are safe and work when they are not and don't!!

I trust my informed judgements over any doctor's or nutritionist any day as their knowledge in this field is severely lacking and biased towards the use of drugs over natural supplements which are infinitely better and without the terrible side effects (because they are natural substances and not artificially produced chemicals).

Good for you, but what does all this have to do with the OP's original statement?

Alas, you will be just as healthy without them.

Over 40 years experience in the health field that included formulating supplements. Can assure you there are nutritional supplements that can greatly impact on your health in a positive manner if you know what they are and the reason to take them. Do some research and I'm sure you'll find some very well done peer reviewed studies to support my claim.

I'll vouch for that.. Started taking some new supplements with my whey protein work out shake and they're making me stiff from the stiff wind of a pair of hot wheels in heels stroll by like when I was a teenager... HA! Don't need viagra!

LOL @ whey protein work out shake

Afraid you'll miss your "Anabolic window" Daddyo?

Just eat real food man...

Why put yourself through that when it is unnecessary though. You don't need drugs at all to get your cholesterol down - I had relatively high cholesterol 269 and this went too low (to 150) within a month. I did exercise, took milk thistle and a few other supplements and cut out simple carbohydrates and refined cooking oils and adopted a healthy diet of vegetables, brown rice, nuts, seeds and 99% dark chocolate.

I also reversed my mates type 2 diabetes in 6 weeks (with not a drug in sight).

Not my fault - it kind of morphed into something else!!

Where can you buy the 99% dark chocolate?

Tops carry a range of Lindt who make 99% but I'm not sure if they carry that one.

Alternatively buy 100% cocoa, eat, drink or whatever two heaped teaspoons daily, with sweetener if required.

I buy mine from TOPS supermarket and it IS Lindt's excellence 99% dark chocolate - I am convinced it is this that has brought my blood pressure down from 135/85 with a pulse of 65 to 115/70 and a pulse of 55. I don't currently do any exercise (I plan to start back on the treadmill soon but am not sure if I need to)!!!

Funny thing about folks who swear by supplements, yet there are millions and billions that live fine without them.

But did you know that at least every minute somewhere in the world somebody dies, who didn't take supplements ? coffee1.gif

Well those that take supplements will never know if that killed them,or not taking them? it's all a question of what you believe?

Sichonsteve, please take a look at spacedoc's website. Papers from various studies are cited and the concensus is that the only real benefit of statins in low doses is to reduce inflammation. There are other drugs and supplements that reduce inflammation, of course. One of the interesting things that you'll find on space doc's site is that the famous Framingham Heart Study did not find that high cholesterol levels cause heart disease. It was later claimed by various pharmaceutical companies that it did. Although some people do not seem to have serious side effects when they take statins, there is now a lot of evidence that statins have caused a huge amount of harm. There are lots of links to the studies on space doc's site. I have heart disease and the dietary approach alone has not worked for me so I take several cholesterol lowering drugs along with plenty of coQ-10 and flaxseed oil since fish oil has been found to be ineffective and often contaminated.

Incidentally, I've found that Thai Sports Supplements has several good supplements, including ZMA, which I take, for fairly good prices and home delivery. Lazada also sells supplements and does home delivery.
