Pet shops that sell feeder insects?

So I'm a brand new expat who's just made the island my home. I love it here so far! But there's something I've been looking for that I haven't been able to find!

I have a pet who requires being fed live insects. Her favorite meal seems to be large flies (ideally, I would feed her blue bottle flies). I was wondering if there were any pet shops around the island that sold live feeder insects. Perhaps a shop that sold reptiles or frogs might also sell these feeder insects, but I just don't even know the first place to start looking!

Up until now, I have been giving her wild caught food--but having a supply of feeders on hand is much more timely!

If anyone could give me any information on this, even if it's just pointing me to a better place to ask, I'd really appreciate it :D

Thanks!!

Not sure you will find a shop that sells "flys". I don't remember seeing any pet store that sold feeder insects. As a long shot you might need to go to the zoo, yes the zoo, They may have a source. Just what type of pet do you have?

Ah, the zoo is an excellent idea!!

The little lady I have is a praying mantis nymph who is growing fast and strong :] her appetite is voracious!

Something you could try is, place some chicken or meat of any kind in a medium to large plastic

open container outside, this will, I am, sure attract many types of flies and insects and you, after

the initial attention starts, place the lid on with a hole that allows you control of access by the

insects, you will now have an abundance of flys, insects and their eggs, larve and grubs for your

little lady.

Thanks a million for the tip, Phuketjock! :D I will certainly try it out--and depending on how well it works, you may have just provided me with the best alternative to buying a fly culture!

Another thing you can do is go to a local shop that sells school uniforms. Oddly enough they also sell school supplies such as "butterfly nets". Simply stand out by your local garbage can and catch the pesky critters. Or even use an UV bug light and catch everything that flies in. Your mantis isn't picky.
