Little traduction

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I'm alex, living in France. I want to translate something in thai i try on google but... It looks strange...

It's : "vivre libre ou mourir" in english i think (live free or die)

Is there somebody here who can help me ?

google traduction : มีชีวิตอยู่หรือตายฟรี

Thanks for your help!

alex

The Thai translation looks good to me - though I'd wait for a native speaker to confirm that before getting it tattooed for life.

Quite why somebody would be so interested in a Thai translation of the New Hampshire state motto (or the title of a Breaking Bad episode) is beyond me, though.

LOL! That's was my reaction to มีชีวิตอยู่หรือตายฟรี.

I can't even believe that google could come up with the word ตายฟรี.

It means like to die in vain.

You should definitely NOT tattoo that!

Please look here for another female who wanted a Thai tattoo.

I think you should also get a yantra tattoo.

Yantra tatto ??

I want thai because It refers to my chilhood... It's the reason ... but i need help smile.png so if someone can help me for this translation... wink.png

but thanks mole to see the "error". No idea mole to improve it ? or anybody else... wink.png

Edit : Ha ok i see! yantra tatto... ok but i need a "linear" sentence. ( don't have big place ^^ )

And the second option if i couldn't translate it was : L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux. (The essential is invisible to the eyes) ( ที่สำคัญจะมองไม่เห็นตา by google... -_- )

Maybe more easy... ??? wink.png

You should consult a Thai tattoo artist to come up with a suitable phrase and design for you.

He may come up with a genuine Thai proverb or word of wisdom for you, rather than translating a phrase from a foreign language into Thai.

Translating something from one language to another will always be a bad idea.

That other translation by google ที่สำคัญจะมองไม่เห็นตา also doesn't make much sense.

Have you ever tried to google translate something from English to French or French to English and noticed that google doesn't really get it quite right?

It's the same when you google translate something into Thai.

live free or die

translated:

อยู่แบบอิสระหรือตาย

If you tattoo this on your body people will think you're very strange. Nobody will understand what you're talking about.

A translation of you second proverb will also result in something strang/ not understandable.

Please follow the advice of Mole, he's Thai.

yeah and i looked for thai proverbs or sentences but... the same for me the traduction by translator is... °-° so i didn't understand what means really.... and it's a tatto so... can't write stupidities! it's serious...

I guess you'll have to come to Thailand and speak to a tattoo artist to get proper advice and insight about this.

he said to me that it means : lightness dispels darkness .

but he don't speak very good english so is it good ?

and is it good if i write it like this ? cause i know that in tibetan we can't write in vertical... but in thai... and not sure for accent

mini_140320041041593890.jpg

Promis after i ... shu*** up. And don't disturb you anymore...

No, you can definitely NOT write Thai vertical either.

Thai script is a so called abugida, where vowels needs to be written together with consonants in clusters.

แสงสว่างทำลายความมืด (IMO is a bit of a cliché)

If you really want to write it vertical, you need to split it up word by word

แสงสว่าง

ทำลาย

ความมืด

Alternatively more awkward way to make it vertical is:

แสง

สว่าง

ทำ

ลาย

ความ

มืด

But I would not really recommend it this way at all.

If you only have a vertical space, then if you really want to tattoo that phrase, then simply tattoo it sideways, if you know what I mean.

Exactly like this แสงสว่างทำลายความมืด, but on the side in the space you want.

You should also let the tattoo artist chose some cool font to use, so you don't end up with something equivalent to Time New Roman or Arial in English.

The only time I can recall seeing Thai written vertically is in crossword puzzles. As Mole intimates, definitely not recommended.

As for font, how about something like Comic Sans?
