A couple years ago the TAT Tourist office moved to Thapae Road, first building from Nawarat Bridge. However they are now building a new office at the old location, across from the Iron Bridge.

Does anyone know if they plan to move back as far as the counter where tourists can walk in for information is concerned? Or that the public office will stay at Nawarat Bridge and the new building is just for their office staff?

They also have an office on Changklan Road, almost opposite the Shangri La hotel. They're very helpful to tourists.

When I went into the one by the bridge that is what they recommended to me for some information I was seeking about the various songthels.

As far as I know the office on Thapae diagonally opposite the Governor's residence is the provincial tourist information office, as opposed to the national TAT. It's been there for 20 or so years, even when TAT was opposite the Iron Bridge. They made a new building but it seems to be as unused as it ever was.

Ideally, there should be a TAT office where the tourists actually are, such as Thapae or the Night Bazaar. The riverside office was convenient for hardly anyone and was also vastly under used. I've been in occasionally to try and get information on other provinces and their attitude is generally , "call them yourself, here's the number...". My response is to suggest that their offer is easy for them, but I'm there to do what's easy for me, so maybe they could ring and get the information. It sometimes works!

There's nearly always only trainees at the desk, with the big boss out back somewhere. They are usually quite willing, but on the whole quite useless. To be fair, I've only ever been in three or four times over many years, so not exactly a basis for making a conclusive judgement. The TAT website is not much use either. I have a friend who has tried many times to get info on festivals in other provinces and often found the TAT website to be wrong, once turning up a week early for one of the national boat races. He met others there that had also be misinformed. He now calls a local hotel to get such info!
