webfact
Energy Min drawing up prevention plan for future power shortagesBANGKOK, 16 April 2014 (NNT) – The Energy Ministry is well aware of the possibility of power shortages in the near future as a gas field will be closed for maintenance.Permanent Secretary for Energy Suthep Liumsirijarern has disclosed that the Thai-Malaysian Joint Development Area (JDA) has planned to close down its gas production field between June 13 and July 10 in order to repair its gas pipes.According to the permanent secretary, the closure would reduce gas supply in the country by approximately 400 million cubic feet per day, expressing fears that powerhouses in Songkhla Province could run short of the main power source, which would result in a loss of 700 megawatts of electricity per day.Despite concerns that the southern provinces could probably face blackouts, Mr. Suthep has strongly assured that power supply for consumption will be sufficient during the period, given that the country has 4,000 megawatts in reserve. The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) would increase its capacity in natural gas distribution to ensure sufficient supply during the closure period, added Suthep.-- NNT 2014-04-

tomross46
There is maintenance on the processing plants and gas fields every year. What has happened to proper prior planning. If there are power outages and/or shortages it is because the Energy Ministry did not plan ahead. OH! I forgot his is an appointed politician, so he is not required to plan ahead.
