Changing from a retirement to a marriage extension

Featured Replies

I am coming up to have to redo my extension of stay but I have a few questions:

1. I currently have a non o visa which I used to create my original retirement extension off, Do I have to do anything regarding this before I request a new extension ?

2. If I change from a retirement to a marriage is there any issues I should watch out for ?

I am OK with the financials for the marriage extension

You will just apply for an extension of stay based upon marriage instead of retirement.

You wife will have to go with you when you apply and of course have all the required documents.

The only advice i can give is if you can afford the retirement visa dont change, its not worth the hasstle . i changed and found a quick extention turned into a nightmare. the next extention was back to the retirement visa and i have been here ten years. I found the officer for married extention to be offensive and unhelpfull .If i had been in uk i would have been near to punching her and i am not a violent man. if you have no option then keep your cool. best of luck.. pete in patts...

Another thing you'll need to bear in mind is that you only receive a 30-day "under consideration" stamp for a marriage extension initially. This is because local immigration offices are not authorised to approve applications for marriage extensions themselves, but instead have to refer them up the line to the local head honcho for final approval. You then need to return to your local immigration office after 30 days to be stamped in for the remaining 11 months - assuming, of course, that your application has received final approval in the meantime.

So particularly if you live a long way from your local immigration office and 2 trips there over a 30-day period would be a major consideration for you, you would be strongly advised to stick to retirement extensions.

So I am reading that there is no requirement I apply for marriage visa because of marriage. This is great as at sure seems the marriage visa is a pain.

I have done 6 already and have found it not be that big a deal, Certainly not enough to have to meet the extra financial requirements for retirement.

Double the money in the bank and an extra 25k baht a month income,

There is that for sure. I meet the requirement by monthly income. If the requirement is raised as some have opined I have a fallback. Thank you Sir, and TV too... I seem to find everything I need with just a little searching...
