A long term member of ThaiVisa has died (if a moderator emails me, I'll give the TV member's name)

He lived in the Chiang Mai region with a Thai partner (not married), but the Thai partner's English isn't perfect, though they do speak some English. (I speak no Thai)

The problem I (and the Thai Partner) have is, we need to find the 'last will & testament'.

I know he would have left a will, and although I looked after his letters in the UK, there's nothing here regarding a will, or even the solicitor he may have used.

I need to phone the Thai partner today and ask the following: -

1, can they look through the letters/paperwork and try to find the will.

2, can they find his address book and give me the telephone number of a person (the person I think could be the designated executor)

3, can they look for any letter that may be from a solicitor and give me the name of the solicitor.

The words I've highlighted above are words I think I could have a problem explaining, for example, 'will' has many meanings, as does 'letter' or 'paper'.

The Thai partner is obviously very upset, and any conversation will be difficult, so I'm looking for some words that could help explain a little better.

I'm living in England and trying to avoid having to go to Chiang Mai to search for any useful document.

I strongly suspect the Will is in the office of his UK solicitor, but I've no idea who his solicitor is.

Address book สมุดที่อยู่ Samut Tee Yoo

A will as in testament, is พินัยกรรม (phi-nai-kam) in Thai.

Solicitor is ทนายความ or just ทนาย. It's pronounced tha-nai-kwam or just tha-nai

Address book would be สมุดที่อยู่

Thank you all for your replies, the translations were very helpful and made the conversations we had today a lot easier.

No will found (we think it's in the UK), no letters from solicitors, and just found out the address book was lost a couple of months ago, so it's going to be a fun ride.

On the plus side, he dies suddenly, and was even posting on Thai Visa 2 days before, so no long drawn out death in a hospital a million miles from home.
