Phuket's World Cup Crackdown

What are we saying here that during this world festival of football we have to control, circumvent and restrict world tourists because of the minority behaviour of a few druken possibly English yobs. Yobs can be removed by the police let the rest of the world come together in a spirit of comeradeship and admire the teams, the players and their skills just as thousands and thousands of tourists are doing in Germany. Its time the intelligent and mature majority were not governed by the thick yob.

Been watching the late games in Patong for the last few nights/mornings with no problems no signs of the BIB

They were bought off then. Please supply the name of this establishment so I can inform the authorities and get this bribery and corruption halted immediately.

Yes, lets have an F1 forum and get the trainspotters out of here. A 2 hour procession of cars where most of the action takes place in the pits! Major excitement when somebody stops for petrol.

The statistics put out to keep the fans awake, make major American sports like Bouncy Ball and Rounders seem exciting in comparison. Speaking of which, their fans were probably surprised that there were teams from outside the USA competing in the world cup!

Sugest the F1 fans get out of here and take TRD Lover with them as he is obviously some fresh faced undersexed guy who is finally getting some and is in awe of it. Go surf porn TRD.

Back to the footy. I remember Japan 2002 when the TAT were advertising Thailand as the ideal place to come and watch the games as we are in a similar time zone. Great idea and the busiest low season I have seen in 10 years. The place was full and buzzing and whatever you think of the drinking, these people had to eat and drink, stay in hotels, fly here in plans and take taxis to the resorts. All good money and spread well beyong the bars.

Great own goal by the TAT and UBC this time around.

Once people turn away, its hard to get them back. It will be a long time before anybody on this side of Bangkok re-subscribes to UBC. Whats more, all this talk is putting off their new subscribers. Hope they get a good kick in their tiny financial <deleted>!

Stop yer whining there is too much bloody football on anyway. I can think of a lot better ways of spending my time than watching a load of nancy boys ponce around a pitch.

I think the most annoying thing is not 1am closing, but the lack of english commentry and scores.

Simple solution - walk into your local UBC retailer, hand over 32,000 baht for a new astro satellite (including 1yr's subscription) and you can get the desired english commentary including 5 special W/Cup channels..... :o

“It’s impossible to extend the opening times to three or four in the morning without a revision to the law by the Ministry of Interior.

yes , its impossible for the police to overlook the law.

prostitution (illegal) continues unchallenged , the illegal lottery continues , motoring laws are flouted continually in front of the police , gunmen and robbers are free to do what they want mostly ,but god help anyone watching a game of footie after 2.am.

the strong arm of the law will be brought to bear on you.

Or will it be : the strong arm of the law will be brought to a bar near you to drink for free and watch football. Get some money off the bar and check they'r gambling books.

TIT :o

I detect a Scottish accent in your I-write-as-I-speak transcription.

I think you just have sour grapes that your team isn't good enough to qualify :o

Dream on peter, u guys are so boring its like watching paint dy. I just came home at 5am Thai time. all my Thai mates r having a ball, sorry no pun iteneded. What about USA ???

Boys hardly play it there,it is a girls sport there.Matter of fact The USA Women Team won the cup last time.

Looks like a load of girls were playing for the Italian team as well! Why don't they deal with the overacting? Not real a good example for the future of tomorrow. Watching the Iranians play against Mexico was refreshing. They didn't dive, roll around or complain like a bunch of girly la las. Well done Iran, shame you got hammered at the end.

Two things: One, Italy is bad for the game. Always has been. Ever since I grew up, the Italian national team cheats, lies, acts, goes 1:0 in front and then puts 11 men in the goal, etc. Horrible. I always hope they fly home early. I hope the Ozzies will take care of them this time.

Second - the FIFA is ###### stupid and refuses to do proper refereeing, even at world cup games. They should have a gremium of five in the back room that review the video for 10 seconds before making some decisions. Instead, they tried a rule where teams can "request" a video review which it totally stupid and takes all the fun out of the game. The FIFA could go to any american game, like american football or basketball and see how a team of refs with technical aids can make quick and good decisions. Not perfect, but worlds better than the football refs.

I mean, come on, every single person watching TV knows more than the referee, slo mo, different angles, close-ups.... how can that be? Does that make sense?

Don't get me wrong, I love Italy the country, but the football... Ugh. Not a co-incidence they have a huge scandal now. It didn't, in fact, surprise me at all

Indeed. That's what makes it awesome. Mexicans can play football (excellent actually, so sad they are out), Asians can play footbal, Europeans, Africans - all shapes, sizes of people can run around with the ball, with wildly different styles, poor or rich, it doesn't matter. Didn't mention South America because everyone knows that football has a permanent home there.

The Economist had an article about that recently. They pointed out that if you are either a rich country or a big evil dictatorship, you can just stamp sports heroes out of the ground in many sports.

But not football. Football can't be centrally planned, it lives off of the creativity of free individuals. And it's emphathizing team spirit over indivudual skills.
