1st 90 day report on Extension of Stay based on Marriage

Featured Replies

I fronted Jomtien Immi this morning with all my paperwork.

Got in fairly quick and the lady asked me why I was here today?

To report my 90 day's was my answer.

She claimed I had overstayed and I needed to pay 2000 Baht!

The full story is as follows;

I got my extension of Stay based on Retirement in Late 2012.

It expired 15 Jan 2014.

I applied for an Extension of stay based on Marriage 14 Jan 2014, got the 30 day under consideration and picked up passport stamped 13 Feb 2014. 90 days bought me to todays date, so I thought .. Wrong!!!

My previous 90 stamp from my Retirement Visa stated that I needed to report Dec 31 2013, 2 weeks before the Retirement Visa expired; but because I didn't (Seems it was my oversight for not knowing) and I applied for the Marriage, the days in between the Dec date and the application date caused me to overstay.

So I think what I should have done is report for 90 day in December 2013 and then 2 weeks later before my Retirement visa expired apply for the Marriage Visa; or do both the 90 day and new application for Extension based on Marriage on the same day.

When I applied for the Extension of Stay based on Marriage, I would have expected someone in Immigration to explain to me that I had overstayed already, rather than hit me with a 2000 Baht fine on my 1st 90 day report.

Does this mean I have to do my 90 day report even if it falls say 1 month before I apply for an extension .. Is it a timing thing?

Any feedback is welcomed and appreciated.

It is not an overstay it is reporting late or not doing your report. Overstay is when you stay beyond your permit to stay date.

The people doing the just failed to notice that you were already late for doing your report. If they had you would of paid the same 2000 baht fine.

Changing the reason for your extension of stay (it is not a visa) dose not reset your report date Only your first extension counts as a report.

You have to do your report before your extension is due or when you apply even if it is only a few days unless it falls into the 7 days late allowed.

You can do your extensions up to 30 days early. You could of done your extension and 90 day report on the same day it you had done your extension earlier.

Thank you Joe, you explain it much better than they did. Wiser for the experience. Thank you.
