A gene defect in the body!

The free shuttle to Cambodia picks up people to casino, also when I come back from visa run I hear only people talking loosing money!

On time I visit genthing highland in Malaysia 2 y ago hundrets of players maybe 10 win something!

For finance the casino land will be sold

I heard another story in the village one man loose his house, and now he rented back!

A friend in my home country she loosed 350000 k euro in 10 years!

So is there a treatment of game addiction , how it looks?

They even gamble non-stop when people pass away.Seems that they don't even go to the bathroom for days.....

.I had been to casinos in Europe twice, both times i had won a few hundred Euros, my "friends" had lost all, had to "lend" them all my money, including that I'd won and never got it back.

Lesson learned.

Nope. You can see gamblers all around the world. Just wondering why they named the almost new casino in Sawannakhet "Sawan Vegas"?

Please tell me that Americans gamble less than Thais do........

It's really the mental workout that they are addicted to.

Carefully deciphering all the information and mentally computing all the different outcomes and permitations, then using that calculated information to gain the statistical advantage of whether the dice will be 'Hi' or 'Lo' is what really grabs them.

Not asking a magic treestump, shoelace or 100 year old piece of clothe to magically help, oh no, it's breath taking to watch these human computers in full flow.

But I still pay good money every month to the local monk of my wife's village. He'd promised me to give me the next lottery numbers, when I continue doing merits for him and his brothers.

One day, I'll be rich. I know it.-wai2.gif

The gene you talk about is a combination , but is mainly composed of greed, boredom, desperation and gullibility . There may be a few other genes thrown in that are common in most homo sapiens like fear and pain when the desired result is not as planned.

One of the saddest things in the world is seeing the results of these genes.

The biggest gamblers, and losers, here are farang. I've lost count of the ones that have gambled their hard earned money on trying to make a life with their teelak and loosing the lot. It's farangs that need help

Good effort at turning a thread about Thai gambling into a Farang rant.

Thanks, but I haven't turned the thread into anything other than what it is. It's a thread for posters to publish their opinions on gambling in Thailand. Why don't you do that instead of trying to criticise people?

Thailand should have casino's. You only have to go to Cheong Chom to see the hoards of Thais crossing the border to give to Cambodia. Gambling isn't going to go away, even though it's banned, so Thailand is missing out on much revenue going to Cambodia. Much more logical to control gambling than banning it.

Thailand cant even control under age kids driving motorbikes

I realy hope that there will be no casinos in Thailand, and a few help centres for kids addicted to mobile phones and games would be much better.

I really wanted to 'like' this post but in reality I think the second part of the wish is the best you can hope for.

No casinos is like have prohibition in the USA but with an off licence at the nearest state border.

Let's be clear, gambling is a huge part of Thai life and there are 'casinos' in almost every village. You won't stop gambling so surely the best way is to police and control it as best as possible. I accept the naivety of that comment and there is little motivation to take any meaningful action. At the top there is a head in the sand approach (same as prostitution is illegal in Thailand therefore it does not exist) and when local police are raking in 100,000 baht a month from a single village casino operation there are too many vested interests to allow change,

Instead of worrying about regulating or controlling gambling, addiction treatment centres should be set up. Every district hospital should have a district treatment centre that treats; gambling, drugs, and alcohol addiction. They should also have counselors that go to the local Health Centres at least once a month, preferably weekly. Spend the money in treatment not enforcement.

Spend what money ?

The money for treatment can come from enforcement.

I agree 100% with the need for treatment centres but IMO control, through education and regulation, should go hand in hand to try and reduce the volume of activity.

The deceased 's family will be allowed to be the "bank" and police will not interfere during a funeral ceremony. I'm not sure whether this is really legal, or whether it is a local custom, accepted by police. Nevertheless I appreciate this gambling because it is very quiet, no 24hrs of overdrive loud music. Let them lose their money and let me sleep....

Thailand is a strict Buddhist country, which fully abides by the cornerstones of Buddhism.

Police do interfere and do raid gambling schools at funerals. Yes it is illegal. The original custom was that people used to play dominoes next to the deceased. It was a way to pass the time whilst keeping the deceased spirits company. The dominoes progressed to cards and other forms of gambling. So I believe.
