northernjohn
So now the country is run by a general that bullies the elected officials. Great. Its not a coup.Better than elected officials that bully the public or independent agencies heay? Plodprasop called the public garbage because they cared for the environment. Chalerm warned independent agencies not to "rush" investigations or risk being "attacked" So the country is STILL being run by a leader that bullies. Difference being is that Tarit deserves it. The public and agencies didn't. What's your views on the red shirts speaking of bullies? People that only achieved their positions because of a military coup deserve to be treated with nothing but contempt. Especially when they do everything that they can to stop elections. Be a bit more specific name these people. What is so great about elections. since 2007 we have had two of them and look at the mess we are in. Could just maybe there be some thing else wrong here. northernjohn
So now the country is run by a general that bullies the elected officials. Great. Its not a coup. When and how was Tarit elected ? As I understand it Tarit wasn't elected, but is an official under the elected government. So they could have sacked him at any point. On the other hand, General Prayuth cannot be sacked by the elected government. He could, actually sack the government, in effect, with a snap of his fingers, by turning this episode of 'martial law' into a full-blown coup. I am sure that some of you anti-Thaksinites are happy that the General has this power. Just don't call it democracy. Call it any thing you want it is still better than being under the dictatorship of Thaksin.

I for one am happy Khun General Prayuth has this power he has and I am also not calling it democracy. I am also happy that power is in the hands of a considerate and fair minded person who has the good of Thailand and its people at the forefront of his decision making. And back to the calling of democracy nor I am calling the pathetic governance that the Shinawatra's were undertaking democracy either. So what is occurring now is not at the lose of any democracy.
Thai at Heart
"The army chief asked for Department of Special Investigation chief Tarit Pengdit and when the latter stood up to identify himself the army chief told him enough is enough, stop it, it is already messed up! Ok, at the risk of seeming to be too dumb to get the joke, but, erm, what? I'm with you. Mai Kow Jai. Indeed. They think this is funny. Its just basically insulting. But then its only insulting because every Thai takes themselves so damn seriously.

beautifulthailand99
Could someone pass onto the good General that tonic water has been and continues to be in short supply in the Kingdom - a small detail to many no doubt but a big issue for those dependent on a gin and tonic to keep the mood light in these darkening times. A farang litmus test for change we can believe in . Oh and if he's still got time on his hands could he also have a glance over at the hand-held bomb detectors which even the British government said were useless, as did a Thai testing facility, which the Army and Police swore were effective and cost between US$28,000 and US$37,500 each (totaling US$1.5 million) but which proved to be worthless, "less effective than flipping a coin". JRSoul
So now the country is run by a general that bullies the elected officials. Great. Its not a coup. Was Tarit elected then? Elected and "appointed by Thaksin" are equivalent to some people; confusion exacerbated by the party list system which allows a (very thin) veneer of electoral respectability to the more odious appointees. JRSoul
More powerful, intellegent, better organised and better equipped armys than the Thai Army have been overthrown regularaly around the world. And some were overthrown with seemingly unassailble support bases. Might feel smug in Bangkok, surrounded by his and Sutheps fawning fans, but rile up the country and who knows. Do well to remember the old adage, "He who laughs last, laughs longest" and as this is the first laugh of the coup, it's bound not to be the last. Let the show of incompetence begin.!! You forgot to remind us of the watermelon conscript soldiers. Could we have some examples of the armies 'overthrown regularaly around the world.' (sic) preferable with use of a spell-checker? Thait Spot
The good general seems to be doing a grand job. Tarit brought down to death, Chalerm tucked up at home and Jatuporn ready to speak with Suthep. All in a day's work. Imagine if he'd done this in January Sent from my Nexus 4 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
pmugghc
It would seem from an earlier report that Chalerms house was one of those raided by the military today. This was probably a follow up to the weapons found in a PT MP"s car yesterday. No official reports of what was found but ...................well we wait and see. Very interesting about Chalerm, do you have more info or any link? Hope they investigate Surapong too.
robertson468
My interpretation of the Army Chief's comment is that, we know you are acting at the behest of Khun T and doing all his dirty work, which is creating mayhem in the Country. You know and we know, so stop now..........or else!

It seems to me he's pointing to the endless, nonsensical hunting down of anti-government protesters by the DSI, when nothing at all has been done to hunt down the red shirt militants who have been causing mayhem and death...! Actually it was not the red skirts that started this. It was the little faci Adolf Hitler Suthep who started the shit this year. The armed forces has to end the comedy, that`s fair enough. They just have to hand this little insurgent in to the court-system and they will give him a nice little condo for the next 30 years. It was the government of PT's lords and lady of misrule that led to this situation. suthep hasn't helped but the causes lay else where.
