jacnl2000 Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Virtual keyboard maybe? Example: http://gate2home.com/German-Keyboard
sirchai Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 may i [not so] humbly suggest that you are entitled to receive the award "possesses a wealth of no idea how to generate foreign letters/characters without changing keyboard or adding useless stickers to a keyboard." Good for you if you remember all the keys location and can type away without looking at the keyboard, me as well as many others, need to actually look at the keyboard and see the actual letters. OP was about a new keyboard to make his typing and translations easier/faster so I'd guess (but I might be wrong) that op wants to see the actual German letters on the keyboard, not trying to generate some special characters with a weird keys combinations. So please stop trolling, your posts are not answering OP's question and as for me, I can get by using the virtual keyboard on those rare occasions I need to use the foreign language. Here's an example of a keyboard with stickers (could be any color to suit your needs): Useless stickers? For you - maybe. Stick with your key combos then. I owe you a beer......
Naam Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 that op wants to see the actual German letters on the keyboard, not trying to generate some special characters with a weird keys combinations. my humble apologies! i was not aware that the OP only wants to see German letters. my impression was that he wanted to type them. 1
Taunusianer Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 I occasionally do translations into German. Using the German language option I just type 'ae' for a-Umlaut etc, my spell checker (usually) does the rest. I wouldn't want to do this professionally although it is a bit quicker than copy/paste. There is also a Firefox addon called 'Mywords', not an easy option but I can insert stuff like ฿, °C, ... easier than using Unicodes. 23 Chrome spell checker works also. At home I use a Thai/English keyboard only since 4-5 years without any stickers, but therefore it's recommended to be able to do 10 finger touch typing.
rajyindee Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 On a Mac you simply hold down whichever letter you want to type and you are given a load of options ...
Taunusianer Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 On a Mac you simply hold down whichever letter you want to type and you are given a load of options ... Screen Shot 2014-05-24 at 05.31.23.png ASCII code, virtual keyboard or just long-holding some key: That all will work if you have to deal with 1-5 word a day, but I think not if you want to translate larger texts.
DILLIGAD Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Someone recently was advertising here that his son can fix all sorts of PC problems. Maybe a search would discover who might be able to assist you??? Live long and prosper! Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I had just finished a 8,000 word translation and it's a pain in the bud. Still not in the mood to put "stickers" on my keyboard. It's not just looking for the suitable letter, I have to use different words that the whole translation makes sense. Will get one from good old Germany soon. Thanks for taking the time.-

fatfather Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 And why you don't just type the "Umlaute" according to German grammar - ae, oe, ue, ss? The advantage is, that who ever opens your translation will see everything displayed well, on most computers these "Umlaute" were shown as scrap because these letters are only used in German language. I write all my reports and e-mails like that and til up now nobody complained.... Fatfather
harrry Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 It's easy to do and many ways to do it. On my computer I have English, Thai and Japanese. Why you don't ask your son? You told us he is an expert to help others if some have problems with their computer. ALL computers have that language function. But the OP, from what we can gather, is looking for the German characters to be on the keys. Heck, I run Windows XP ... it even has Thai script available. Not all Windows have multi language. It is not available on some of the lower end home or single language editions of some types. XP has third party thai language available. If it is only a small amount of typing that is needed I suggest using the virtual keyboard available on most flavours of windows after adding the German language and keyboard.

Why don't you fly off to the Internet forum, please? I know that you don't know how long a 12,000 word, with very difficult technical English into German translation can be. You'll have to use completely different words that a dictionary would spit out, to attract customers to buy a product. And that's what I'm basically doing. A very kind TVF member will come to Thailand in about two weeks and bring one for me. It's even worth to trade it for my father in law's favorite buffalo. (Her name's Emanuelle with only 10 miles on the clock) Your statement that it's only a small amount of typing is really annoying. But thanks for trying to understand my problem. Will buy you a big beer at Big-C soon.- And then copying UES AES OES and ESZETT? And paste them? Please go to an Internet forum and post about your experience about XP .

You arrogant so called english teacher who is not even capable of reading or understanding the word if in the sentance: "If it is only a small amount of typing that is needed". It is a pity you do not go back to Germany and use your keyboard there but not on this forum.
