Powerful tank shell discovered behind a famous school in Pattaya

CHONBURI, 17 June 2014 (NNT) - Police have detected a tank shell that was concealed within a fertilizer sack left abandoned in a patch of grass.

Police Colonel Thammanune Mankong, the Superintendent of the Bang La Mung Provincial Police, disclosed that some locals reported that the shell was placed at a deserted alley just behind a famous school in Pattaya City. The school’s name has not been made public for security reasons.

Following the incident, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was called in to make a safe recovery of the object, where it would be collected as evidence and then destroyed afterwards. The old tank shell was about one and a half foot long and weighed ten kilograms.

49 year-old Sompan Talton was the first person to spot the object. The local lady reported that she stumbled upon the shell as she was going to utilize the abandoned fertilizer sack for storing objects. However, as she picked it up, it was strangely heavy. Ms. Sompan then called the police afterwards after she realized what the object actually was.

Whoops. Looks like someone forgot to tell Pattaya One that the school's name had not been released.

Not to worry, the probably got the name of the school wrong anyway as with the rest of the "facts". The item found was not a mortar and its size was not 150mm.
