Jet airways and Mumbai

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a reasonable priced flight to my home country in August, and the only ones that come up in that range are Aeroflot and Jet airways.

Aeroflot lands a 11 pm, which would mean a problem to get to my final destination.

Jet airways lands in the morning which is much better, but I've been told that the stop in Mumbai is a pain in the arse.

I heard you need to recheck luggage and that the service also isn't that great.

Please share your experience regarding this airline .

Seems the new terminal (which opened recently) at Mumbai is a vast improvement.

Red the reviews here : http://www.airlinequality.com/Airports/Airport_forum/bom.htm

Thanks for the link, though I can't see on the booking if I will use terminal 2 or 1.

Seems the reviews are also from travelers who's final destination was Mumbai or had a domestic connection.

I'm wondering when Mumbai is a stopover for an international flight, why you need to check in the luggage again.

Just checked on flightstats and it seems that both the BKK/BOM and BOM/LHR flights land and/or depart at/from Terminal 2 in Mumbai.

No idea abt the luggage situation.

A phone call to Jet in Bangkok might give you better answers.

Hope to have helped at least a little bit.

Just DON'T fly either of those airlines. Both are unpleasant and unsafe.

I have flown Jet Airways via Mumbai a couple of times and found it a very pleasant experience.

Good food, ample legroom and sexy hostesses. Mumbai airport was fine, security check slightly OTT but nothing worth worrying about.

My luggage was checked through and it was just a short walk between gates for transfer via a airbridge (not bus unlike so many airports)

I even got upgraded to first class last time because the woman beside me was morbidly obese and took most of my seat also!

I believe they've improved the airport since I last flew through there. It was a bit of a pain, but nothing too bad really.

You won't need to collect and re-check your bags, you just go through security, which was very badly organised.

Jet Airways are fine, Mumbai was a pain in the arse, but worth it for the money saved on the ticket.

I flew with Jet, via the new terminal in Mumbai, last month and, while they still bus you from the arriving Bangkok-flight from a remote parking-stand, boarding the London-flight was via an airbridge as-previously, so no change there.

The new terminal is a VAST improvement on the old, fully up to the standard set by DEL, security-inspection is still a pain-in-the-ar*e, and Duty-Free prices appeared to have risen considerably.

Luggage is (of course) booked all-the-way, no need to collect it & recheck it, as the OP had wrongly been told. Oh, and your hold-luggage allowance both ways is 30 kgs, very helpful if you're carrying home loads of 'goodies' to Bangkok, as I do.

The flight to/from LHR-T4 is a B777-300, unfortunately now usually in 3-4-3 configuration, the flights to/from BKK are fairly-cramped B737-800s/900s, sometimes with IFE but sometimes without.

In-flight-service can IME be variable, the catering is not wonderful unless you love real Indian food, but then again the prices are usually pretty good. My last trip (from/to BKK) was B28.5k, and my next one (in the autumn) was B26.5k return. Which rather puts the Gulf-based airlines to shame. Basically half the cost of flying Thai Airways !

If you can make an 08.40-departure from Swampy, then you also have the option of a daylight-flight via DEL/Delhi, arriving 18.30 into Heathrow. Return-flights via DEL or BOM leave late-evening, but there's also an 09.30 morning-departure via BOM, with good connections on to BKK.

One's fellow-passengers are, as you might expect, mainly Indian, but there are always a few farangs to chat to in-the-lounge/onboard. And the Indians are usually friendly too, often on their first trip overseas on the flights to/from BKK, a bit reminiscent of a holiday charter-flight to Spain/Greece in the old days !

It all depends how much you want to save several-thousand Baht, or get 30 kgs rather-than 20/23 kgs hold-luggage, basically all flights on all airlines are pretty boring/unexciting/cramped these days IME.

Have flown with this outfit twice and no more, customer service was low, the planes whilst fairly new were cramped and security at BOM is not what travelling should be about.

I've flown Jet to Mumbai and connected through. Flight was good. Only caution I have about connecting through Mumbai - short layover, no problem. bags will get loaded onto your new plane right away. Long layover - avoid. I had a long layover and someone tried to break into my luggage............

What do you mean by unsafe? it might be helpful if you could provide a source for that comment.

I ask because my cousin is flying that route in a couple of weeks.

You can have a look at the safety records of Airlines, might be something there, some get a much better rating than others. Jet have a good record as far I know, India not so good. I am not a fan of Indian food so hows your cousin? IFE was heavily as you would expect into Bollywood and security at BOM is like you never went through anything at LHR or BKK with unfriendly types administering the process. I know they have their own problems but I would rather avoid it all, that said on checking on sites in the UK Southall for instance Jet prices recently are much lower than others and you might put up with 15 hours x 2 to save £200.
