did anybody see the SIAMNARAMIT show yet ? is it worth to see ? how much are the tickets ? I heard its very expensive, but on their website there is no information.... when click on "booking": "this page is temporarily unavailable" ..... is it sooooo damned expensive that they even refuse to list the ticket prices there ? or is it a "Farang-is-rich-always-and-therefore-must-pay-more" - kind of thing ?

Yes, TG and I went to see it about three months ago.

SiamNiramit is a huge, musical extravaganza.

Excellent entertainment.

It's music and dancing and special effects - lots of special effects.

Professionally done, very polished.

If you've ever seen a Las Vegas show, this compares with the best of them.

I was impressed to see a show of this caliber in Thailand.

The show hints that it is about Thai culture.

Well, there are some beautiful costumes in traditional Thai style, really magnificent.

And all the music is derived from Thai traditional music -- with some modern, jazzed-up arrangements.

But this is not the place to learn anything about Thai culture -- it's just a big show.

Think of it as "Disney does Thailand".

I didn't care for the thick layer of "politically correct diversity", but that is impossible to avoid in "the arts" these days.

Old Siam didn't have people of Negro race, but I recall at least one put in the show for effect.

Muslims have an overly large amount of attention in the show compared to their contributions to Siam.

Plenty of Chinese -- all happy and dancing, but none working hard as Chinese are wont to do.

One baby elephant.

Not a single Caucasian/farang, that I recall.

Cheap-Charlies won't like the price, and that's a good thing because no smelly backpackers in the audience.

I reserved tickets at the tour desk at my hotel:

price of 1,400 baht per person included a private van with driver and a nice buffet dinner before the show.

The buffet was ample and tasty, but nothing special.

Once at the show, I asked about the "walk-up" price at the ticket window: 1,500 baht, no buffet and, of course, no van transportation.

So better to reserve with a tour desk.

If you can afford it, go.

It's a delightful evening.

""Old Siam didn't have people of Negro race, but I recall at least one put in the show for effect.""

It was my understanding that the original inhabitants of Thailand ie the aboriginal original, came from the Andaman Islands and were a small stature negroid people called the negretos by anthropologists

A very small group still exist in the islands I believe the numbers are below 500 pure bloods left

as usual - "if you cannot rate - then overcompensate" local way of doing show biz

Massive sound system that makes you deaf for a day, lasers and lights like hel_l at its best, Norhtern hot-steppa's dancers for 10K per 2 dozen and retards flying over the stage with constipated faces.

the plot is about mistical country somewhere in asia, nothing to do with siam, just few stuppas and pagodas.

the show belongs to some sort of tycoons, who can change Ferraris on the daily basis. Chang beer as is not a sponsorship - is a big favor from "the Man"

the walk-in rate is 1500 Baht, travel agency's rate is 800 baht incl dinner (pretty good), after the show half-blind half-deaf tourists can indulge themselves on the Ratchada Rd, karaoke and massage parlors, as well as "oops, I'll never be a man again" show of Ratchada Cabaret.

Good to take your friends from EU on their first trip to Thailand.

dont take kids - too loud. take mother-in-law instead.
