Hello,

This may be a silly question but can anyone give a very affectionate stray cat a home? I am leaving Thailand for a while and worry what will happen to him.

"Big balls" has been living on the terrace outside my house since I moved in here in May (he was here already) and I've fed him once per day and made him a shelter (outside) when it's been raining.

What is striking about him is how he seeks human attention and appreciation. At first we tried to chase him off but he stubbornly stayed and kept rubbing his head against our feet and flipping over on his back expecting cuddles as soon as we stepped outside, until he won our hearts. He has clearly had a loving home once and a lot of interaction with humans but probably been abandoned.

His condition is that he is clean but clearly needs a visit to the vet not to mention getting rid of those big balls (neutering). He was recently in a fight and some animal bit off a bit of his back paw about two weeks ago. I e-mailed Samui Dog & Cat rescue to have him helped but the same night he limped away and wasn't seen for several days.

It has now healed up ok but he is still limping a bit and I'm pretty sure a vet should look at it anyway. Apart from that he seems to have an old tail injury (broken) and an old bite on his leg. I haven't been able to take him to the vet myself due to lack of transportation and box. I have e-mailed Samui rescue and they are prepared to come and get him and fix him if we can time when he is actually here which isn't so easy. He comes and goes and it's impossible to say when he stays.

He sometimes disappears for 1-3 days but always returns starving and meowing for attention. Feeding him is not enough, this cat clearly longs for human attention and getting petted. Just after finishing his meal he sits outside the door and meows until I go out to pet him. As soon as he sees me he flips over on his back and purrs very loudly.

I haven't taken this cat in because my stay here is not permanent and I don't want him to become completely dependent on me. As it is now he comes and goes as he pleases and clearly he has other means of getting food but every time he sits there in the dark with those sad eyes and having filled his belly doesn't seem to be enough I feel that this cat truly deserves a home. If I open the door at night he rushes in and throws himself on his back on the carpet and starts to purr loudly. I think a home where he could be outside but also enjoy the safety of indoors with some human affection would be perfect.

There seems to be a number of stray cats around here and you can hear them screaming and fighting at night. Neutering would help keep Big Balls stay out of that sort of trouble as well as stopping unwanted kittens entering the world.

If anyone would take him I would gladly provide a few bags of cat food and his food bowls, stuff like that. The neutering/fixing of wounds can be provided by Samui rescue but he should probably have a home or someone to return to after that who could give him a bit of help along the way. They keep him for a week until the stitches from the neutering come out. (I have only 4 days left in Thailand.)

Please PM if you have any questions about him. See also photos attached. post-161023-0-99069800-1405918869_thumb.post-161023-0-44759700-1405918878_thumb.post-161023-0-53747300-1405918885_thumb.

(PS: We are located in Chaweng Hills, 5 minutes up the hill from Caltex on Ring road.)

It is getting a bit crowded in my areas with cats. Also, in 2 days I'm going to Bangkok for a week, so if I take him in, I won't be around to look for him.

After all he is a stray and so far has managed to take care of himself well.

Alternatively, we could try to simply relocate him to my place and my neighbors usually also put food out for cats, and hopefully he'll still be around when I get back.

If he is still around, then I'll get him neutered right away, albeit not by Samui Dog Rescue, despite that I live just across the street from them. (Long story)

Does he speak any Swedish? I'm worried Toong might forget hers if she doesn't get any practice :P

(Toong was my cat until I left last week whereupon Mole most graciously took her in.)

How very kind of him!

I'm pretty sure he has managed to learn "Är du hungrig?" (are you hungry?). He always replies with a loud MEOW! ;)

Hm I don't know if relocating him with you not there would be a good idea. He is not at full health (limping) and could end up in new fights with the cats already there.

You are right that he is a stray and has managed to take care of himself well enough here. He surely does know how to win people's hearts.

My main concern is his paw and not being neutered. I just had a look at it and it's still partly bloody (dried) and perhaps infected although it's no more than a toe bitten off and it does look a lot better than before. I quickly decided that Samui Rescue is better than no rescue but as I go to pick up the phone he's gone again!

As long as he is not neutered I also imagine he will keep ending up in those fights with new injuries.

Perhaps I shall go door knocking and ask some of the people living here if anyone would care for him or just leave some food out.

Yes, regarding the neutering, you've known him since May, and still haven't had the chance to get that sorted out. Also, despite not having a basket for him, you could at least have put him in a room so and wait for Samui Dog Rescue to come and get him (which could potentially take days, if they come at all...).

This would be the first thing I'd do, is to contain him so that he won't go anywhere.

Why do I feel that your efforts are kinda just half-hearted?

Don't take me wrong, I am a cat lover, but I can't be taking in all the stray cats all over. By the way you describe him, he seems to be perfectly well of taking care of himself.

He managed to survive fine till he found you, so I'm sure he knows very well where to find food in his area.

I think actually he'll be perfectly fine with me. At least, first thing I shall get sorted out is neutering and obviously the vet will have to take care of his wound as well, which I will gladly pay to get him promptly sorted out, than to wait for Dog Rescue, which they seems to be ever-present busy.

The only inconvenience is that I need to go to Bangkok, otherwise I'd take care of him right away.

So the choice is him potentially getting into fights with cats in my area, but he'll get his wound taking care of & neutering, or just leave where he is at his own peril.

I understand you cannot be taking in every stray cat all over and he IS surviving here after all.

I don't know what's best. If you feel it's a good idea to relocate him to your area I will trust your judgement as you seem experienced with stray cats which I am not (this is the first time I'm in contact with one) and therefore also uncomfortable to contain him inside my house where there's no real closed room to contain him in apart from the bedroom - and no litter box for him to pee in.

Can you call me (if you have time before you go) so we can talk about what is the best solution? I pm:ed you my number. Thanks in advance.

I will also call around to some vet clinics to see if anyone would be willing to do a home visit to fix his paw up here.

No vets will do home visits.

Also, bathroom is just fine, that's what I do to my cats and no need for litter box. Cats can go for days without peeing. If they really need to, they'll find a corner to do it.

I'll can come tomorrow morning and pick him up. Just make sure he'll be around when I am there. You may even have to put him in your bathroom for the night.

Seems like AngThong's cat "Toong" and "Big Balls" has become BFF. I've always seen they hang out together. Fortunately Toong is neutered, so there won't be anything from this union.

I'm gonna get the balls of "Big Balls" taken care off in a couple of weeks.

How cute is that!! He really did just need some loving.

What are you going to call him after his, um, operation?

Twitty? Nut-Ella ?

I personally actually don't have any names for my cats. So other people may call them whatever they like.

I had a cat once, got lost. Was walking down the street calling it's name. Yeah very original, pussy.Let's say I got some very strange looks.

My neighbour is telling me "Big Balls" is urinating all over the place, so I've booked an appointment to get him castrated this evening. He also have a habit of sniffing the behinds of other cats, so his hormones must be in overdrive.

I open my door and finds Bruno, Big Balls and Toong and my Luang (Yellow) [which is what my neighbour calls him] all together.

Big Balls (actually not so big anymore) is doing his duty. He has become fatter and fatter lately.

My neighbour put collars with names on them on all the cats. This is what they calls them:

Bruno = Polo

Big Balls = Kaew (Glass)

Toong = Lay (as in Frito Lay chips)

Could have been worse, you could have been walking down the street shouting Big Balls.

Aww the cuteness. This is my favourite "feel good" thread on TV. Mole is an absolute hero and Big Balls will always be Big Balls - even without balls ;)
