Popular Post Diplomatico
I was walking on Sukhumvit, between soi 11 and soi 13, approaching the pedestrian overpass; I was going to drop off some laundry across the street. Just before the overpass, three police officers stopped me (guys in the brown uniforms with military-like shoulder boards.) My initial thought was that they were going to search the laundry bag (which contained only laundry) and I was thinking "oh no, I don't have ID on me and this may be a problem". However, after identifying themselves as police, one of them asked me where I was from....after telling him, he asked me to stand beneath a sign that was posted on the side of the overpass, approximately seven feet in the air. The sign reads "It is unlawful to litter in Thailand" in English and, presumably, says the same thing in the Thai language beneath the English version. They asked me to point upward with one hand toward the sign while facing toward them - and then they took a picture of me doing so. After that, they shook my hand and allowed me to proceed onward. And no, I hadn't littered. So I guess you can look for me soon in an environmentally friendly advertisement targeted toward farangs, coming soon. (I am not making this up. True story.)

Diplomatico
yea, hey boss we made this farang pick up all the garbage on sukhumvit hahahaha Funny. I was thinking at the time that it would have been a more effective photo if they had asked me to pose underneath the sign while in handcuffs.

Popular Post apetley
It's a scam. As soon as you appear in advertising they'll arrest and deport you if you don't have a work permit.

misterphil
You should of charged them 200 baht for the photo? Thats what they would of charged if you asked them for a photo of them. Personally, I don't let any stranger take a photo of me. You don't know where that photo might turn up photoshopped and on some weird website somewhere.

Ayemanomad
Surely this doesn't mean they plan to provide litter bins everywhere? They are most definitely needed. There is far too much rubbish strewn everywhere. We can live in hope.

Suradit69
You have become a Poster Boy for Thailand.. With a little creative Photoshopping, he could be used in a variety of (somewhat bizarre) ad campaigns by changing the text on the sign.

Diplomatico
Tell us OP ... did you have you best vest, shorts and flip flops on? Ha, ha....by "vest" I guess you mean what we call a "tank top" or "wifebeater"? So the answer is no. Collared shirt - with pockets! - shorts, boat shoes because it's rainy season and they drain/dry quickly. Laundry was in a hotel provided laundry bag. Cheers, all. I got a chuckle from the incident and from the wits posting on the thread.
