NLA speaker and deputy speakers named

BANGKOK, 8 August 2014 (NNT) – The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has completed the selection of its speaker and two deputy speakers during its first meeting.

The NLA has convened its first session with the main agenda of appointing a speaker and his two deputies. As a result, a unanimous decision was made to select Advisor to the National Council for Peace and Order Pornpetch Wichitcholchai as the NLA Speaker. At the same time, former Deputy Senate Speakers Surachai Liangboonlertchai and Peerasak Porchit were appointed the NLA First and Second Deputy Speakers respectively.

On Thursday afternoon, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn represented His Majesty the King at the state ceremony of opening the NLA at the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall.

His Royal Highness urged all the 197 NLA members to pool their forces and work to the best of their ability to ensure all the affairs were to be carried out straightforwardly in a righteous manner and in line with the rule of law.

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, who also a General in the Royal Thai Army, Admiral in the Royal Thai Navy, and Air Chief Marshall in the Royal Thai Air Force, must have felt it was like homecoming day in the NLA with many of its members being active and former military officers.

Probably the first time Surachai has ever been 'elected' for a position of power. Hats off to the man. Seems like he has been given the nod for all the bidding he has been doing.
